I've used a bunch of services in the past to purchase healthy meals and really like this angle. Do you envision any businesses using this as a way to distribute food that goes unsold? I could see some type of angle where it helps in the community vs. just throwing it out

@benmlevy Definitely a fantastic idea. We'd love to see cooks giving away their unsold meals and produce for free through the app for one, but I love your idea of taking it a step further and putting unsold food from larger producers in the hands of cooks in the first place. Anything we can do along the way to facilitate and encourage this we will. Thanks!

Congrats on the launch guys! Really interested to know how this works from a food safety perspective? The UK has strict guidelines and health inspections on all food retailers to ensure quality and food safety. Wondering how Bob from down the road is vetted and your service ensures he isn't going to poison me with his homemade curry or bad food hygiene. Really interesting idea and think this has great potential!

@de There are lots of people already selling homemade meals, cakes and such from their kitchen - complying with food standards. In the UK It just requires you to fill out a form, arrange a visit and you are good to go, you get a rating just like restaurants do, but the checklist for your kitchen isn't quite as extensive, so it should be an easier task. That teamed with user verification processes (like ID scans) and user reviews should help keep the marketplace healthy, no Bobs.

I had this same idea a couple of years ago. How do you handle city food & beverage permits (health & safety) and licensing? It was a major hurdle for suppliers.

@mitchwongho Thanks for the question! There's no simple answer - it's going to be different in every location, we're just going to have to work together as a community to help each other out finding the best solutions. In most cases, home cooks will likely have to register as a food business, and receive the required certificates. I've spoken to my local council in the UK and this process is very cheap, quick and easy. As long as you know what you're doing in the kitchen (even at an amateur level) you shouldn't have problems getting approved.

@kristijan94 I respectfully disagree, we're working on something completely different. They share recipes, we sell food on demand. Yes we both have "Yum" in the name and use colours that are often used for food branding, but beyond that we're not offering anything that they offer.

@kristijan94 @liammckay Hey guys. Happen to be the CEO at Yummly, and I was even confused. We do have the trademark for the term Yum, and not only are you using the orange color, your logo has an extremely similar script shape too. I can see how others are finding it confusing.

I am in awe of this - because i had the same idea no less than a week ago! Inspired by a cooking show i was watching where factory workers in India had home-cooked meals made for their lunches by co-worker's wives, allowing them to earn a second income. The idea struck a chord and i thought "there's nowhere out there that facilitates this", and now there is. I'm chuffed someone has done this and done this well. If it helps re: the food safety stuff, i was going to require a reviewed, valid food safety certificate as part of the signup process before trading, no idea if that's possible for you. Wonder how Just-eat and similar do it? Good luck with this! Excited to see it develop.

- And yes, this definitely struck a chord with me too! The spirit of what happens here is great, if we could capture a little bit of that we'd be off to a good start. I think there's a lot of opportunities to turn some spare time into a second income this way. I don't think our idea is unique, so we're glad you had a similar thought, we're just working hard to make sure we 'do it well' as you say. I think each cook would have to get the required food standards certificates rather than us as a company. We are just facilitating the transaction between cook and customer. That's likely how other fast food marketplaces operate too.

Love the idea but the entire experience has been confusing so far. First off, I wanted to see if this is available in my zip code. So I was forced to create an account to see if I can find this out. When I created an account there was no information on how and when I would be able to get my meals. It was then clear to me by the next page that you are looking for meal cookers but did not find any information on how to become a meal purchaser. I scanned the website quickly so perhaps I missed something? I hope this helps and best of luck!

Basically this was just our announcement, we're simply asking anyone who's interested in the idea right now to sign up to stay notified - while giving them the chance to invite their friends and earn rewards.
