I stumbled across this gem one day on Reddit. I've tried just about every app out there and am a veteran Omnifocus user. It was recommended highly, so I figured I'd check it out.
Marvin is the app that I'd long been searching for! I knew that the app I wanted didn't exist, and it didn't until recently. I was moderately content with Omnifocus, knowing I wanted an app to do much more and manage every aspect of productivity simultaneously. I checked periodically for new software developments. Nothing. Just two months ago in my productivity software search, I didn't find anything better. Other apps didn't work well on my Android phone.
Marvin does it all! I'm more amazed by what I can do now with Marvin than when I chose Omnifocus as my first GTD app. I didn't think I could be amazed, since I'd seen it all. Just more apps which were glorified checklists, and highly overpriced for what they offered. I took less than an hour to get oriented fully in Marvin, and I realize now that the possibilities are endless. Everything is modular. You can customize it to be as minimalist or power-user-ready as you'd like. I had thoughts of what my ideal GTD app would be, and Marvin addresses what was missing in other apps. It was clearly designed thoughtfully. It was designed by someone who actually considered how to IMPLEMENT it in daily life. It wasn't just a new checklist. Go meet Marvin! As a veteran GTD productivity enthusiast, I can't recommend it more highly. Marvin has exceeded my expectations and shown me just how modular and comprehensive software can be. Marvin is your one-stop shop for pomodoro timers, priority management, to-do lists, everything.
Absolutely brilliant.
@d_m1 Thank you so much for your comment! :) Super happy to hear Marvin is just what you were looking for. I was told about Amazing Marvin by a colleague, who had stumbled across it, after I had said I was looking for something with more customization and control than the likes of Trello, Asana, Google Tasks etc and so signed up for a trial.
I haven't managed to go through all the options as there are so many however each one has a great description and some also have video guides showing how they work.
The platform is constantly updated with a comprehensive list of the changes along with a video guide showing them. The developers are ultra responsive to feedback and suggestions and even have a great road map showing what they are moving towards.
Some may balk at the price however you get so much for that price I 100% feel it is worth it and they even provide discounts for students which is an awesome gesture.
I don't write too many reviews on things however this has blown me away and I couldn't recommend it enough to people.
Pros:
Way too many to name! Tonnes of customization so you can set it up the way you want it. Constant improvement and great team behind it
I've tried dozens of todo list apps and day/calendar planning services. Amazing Marvin is the only app that has really worked for me.
As of June 2019, the Android / iOS apps are very limited. For example, you can't even reorder tasks. According to dev new apps are coming soon with more functionality.
Pros:
- Very customizable through an ingenious extension mechanism
- Can be anything from a todo list to a full-blown day planner.
- Great support
Cons:
- Onboarding experience is not the smoothest.
- The modular architecture can be imposing. There over 50 extensions that can be enabled.

Might be right for others, but I went back to Todoist after a 30 day test.
Pros:
- versatile
- adapts to multiple productivity paradigms
- multi-platform
Cons:
- a bit confusing to use productivity systems that I already know how to use in other contexts

After working extensively with To Do list applications like Todoist and Microsoft To Do, I started looking for solutions that are more customizable and with a higher level of integration, so I ended up using Zenkit and Airtable. Zenkit was neat but limited, and its UI (user interface) was too cluttery IMHO. Airtable is a bomb of an application, but a bit cumbersome for day-to-day planning and to do lists. Airtable ended up as the backbone of the engineering department of my company.
Then I came across several applications that take in data from other apps, and internally combine calendars with task management, such as Amazing Marvin, Sunsama, Friday, Akiflow, and others which also integrate notes. I used all of them for periods of 4 to 14 days. Most fell short:
- The UI was too busy to fit well inside the 13” Macbook Pro that I use when on the move.
- I could not see my calendar and tasks simultaneously with more than one day visible.
- The colors, fonts and layouts were dull and unmovable.
Amazing Marvin came out as the clear winner because I was able to customize it for all of the above, and then have many other traits like:
- Being able to use a folder-like structure of Projects, tasks and subtasks, simultaneously with a structure of categories and subcategories.
- Separately being able to establish a hierarchy of labels (tags) to order up and view my tasks according to different criteria.
- Automatic roll of unfinished tasks to the next day (Sunsama also does this) and visible procrastination count for each task.
- And a ton of other features (called Strategies) which can be activated and deactivated at will, like pomodoro, time blocking, weekly review, goals, etc.
From a functional point of view, the app is extremely nimble, and allows you to move your tasks around on a calendar, on a priority hierarchy, using notes, attachments and all the typical bells and whistles of other apps with reckless abandon. It never crashes or loses data.
Amazing Marvin comes with a simple default layout and a comprehensive onboarding guide comprised of tasks within the app. This layout can be converted to a big variety of other presets that follow a variety of famed task management criteria, like GTD, Eisenhower and many others. You can further adapt the layout by moving features all over, almost like a Lego set. Then you have a ton of aesthertic variations, like different color sets, fonts, font thicknesses and separators. The ability to “redesign” the UI allows me to keep improving it at will, and changing it from time to time, to maximize quantity and quality of content, minimize clutter, enhance contrast, soften up the UI, etc.
For such a good app, the pricing is very low IMHO, and the cost of the lifetime subscription is the deal of the century. The personnel is friendly and supportive, the tutorials are super easy and the Youtube articles are of very high value, although a bit outdated.
My only CON is that I would not recommend it to somebody who has never used a basic task management app before. I suggest such users to get the hang of a basic to do list app first, establish priorities, grouping, tagging, folders and due dates, and then move to Amazing Marvin when they already know what you want. That is the thing with Marvin: You have to know what you want, so you can customize Marvin to have it, and then be surprised day after day with the amazing array of extra features.

I'm neurodivergent and I've never stayed with a single productivity app for long. But I've now been using Marvin for more than 3 years and I've bout a lifetime account because I know it's worth it.
