Artifex 0.5.40: a real game-building demo, window screenshots and vision fixes
Watch the full demo on YouTube: Artifex builds a text adventure — real AI workflow
Hi everyone — Jacob Eli Alicea here, the maker of Artifex.
Artifex 0.5.40 is available for Windows, with a new real-session demo. Watch Artifex and Gemini build Lanternfall, a Python text adventure, correct a launch error, run three generated tests and bring a screenshot of the game window back into chat.
Download the free captioned demo video and read the combined release notes. The full MP4 is attached to that post. It is silent and edited for time; the task limit and follow-up correction are shown.
What is new in 0.5.40?
Capture a specific observed app or game window without falling back to a whole-desktop screenshot if capture fails.
Fixed truncated Gemini vision analysis, retained more useful paged file context, and corrected a tight-context continuation error.
Images, screenshots and supported videos stay with the reply that shared them. Ordinary capability questions receive conversational handling.
A workspace around your chosen model
Resizable Chat beside Browser, Files, an embedded command terminal, Git Review or Activity.
Editable project memory, pinned chats, local search, recoverable Trash and settings through your username.
Focused clarification questions, task checkpoints, recorded tool results and reviewable file changes.
Optional conversational voice, creative tools, bounded workers and explicitly enabled local MCP servers. Required third-party tools and models are separate.
Try the free Windows demo: choose “Artifex Free Demo 0.5.40 — Optional 7-Day Full-Feature Trial.” The feature tour needs no AI key. Sign in with itch.io for an optional allowance of 168 hours of signed-in running time. Signing out or fully closing Artifex pauses it; idle and minimized time counts. Internet check-ins are required, and reinstalling does not renew the trial. Saved work remains after the trial ends.
Bring a local Ollama model or supported API. AI credits are not included. Full Early Access remains a $99.99 one-time purchase.
Validation: 744 source tests ran with no failures or errors (one source Godot check skipped; the real engine check passed in packaged acceptance). All 17 full-app and six limited-demo packaged checks passed, along with both installers’ install, repair and rollback checks. AI output still needs review; this is unsigned Windows Early Access software with manual updates.
Software reviewers: email d3cr7pt@gmail.com with your channel or publication to request a key for an honest, independent review. Positive coverage is not required. Please disclose the free review key.
