@sarahhum This looks awesome! Quick question: Are the monthly active users tracked by total number using the developer's app, or the number of people actively using Canny?
Sarah Hum
@imakestrides Hey Kyle! Great question. We intended the former. The buckets are quite large as a failsafe because we expect the feature restrictions to drive the upgrades. We think user numbers are a decent proxy to the value that you get from Canny.

@sarahhum Thanks for the quick reply! Best of luck. :)

Congrats on a delicious looking product - and one that seems to offer so much for new projects. I do worry that at the usual price of $79 for the small team option, that is likely to be far too punchy for early stage small startups. But the single sign-on is reaaaaallly useful. Will no doubt give this a go though on the basic plan. Any plans to offer free trials to get people hooked on your sexy UI?
Andrew Rasmussen
@david_west Hey David, thanks for checking out Canny! We do have a 30 day trial (with no credit card required) so feel free to give that a shot. Pricing is indeed really tough, we spent a lot of time thinking about it. We marked the $79 plan down to $49/mo for now, and see that as a pretty reasonable and common starting point for awesome SaaS tools. We're also bootstrapped and it's hard to build a business off less. 🙃

@a13n Absolutely - I understand the dilemma you have. You're gonna get me hooked and paying that in no time, I'm sure of it ;)

Just spent a while trying to integrate via PHP. A couple of notes. 1. If you need to implement in PHP, take a look at https://gist.github.com/inxilpro... 2. Most of what made it hard is that Canny is using an encryption algo that's not recommended by most (and thus not really documented). Take a look at my feature request: http://bit.ly/2nfk95f Overall, seems like a cool product, though.
Andrew Rasmussen
@inxilpro Hey Chris, really appreciate you diving into nitty gritty PHP and Node encryption code for us. We'll be sure to add a PHP snippet very soon so others' PHP integration is a more seamless experience. Also appreciate you letting us know about JWT, we'll have to upgrade our SSO method.

@a13n @inxilpro +1 for Ruby!

Hi, Canny looks great, maybe i'm missing something though but I can't seem to see anything on your website about how the product works and what it really looks like for my customers? It looks like I have to spend time integrating it into my app, which is ideal, but I'd like to see how much work this is and what a typical end result looks like. Do you have docs, videos, anything we can look at before signing up?
Sarah Hum
@mposborne Hey Mark! Here are a couple of the examples we've featured on the site: https://react-native.canny.io/fe... https://repl.it/feedback It sounds like we need to work on our landing page to communicate better. For now, we have a 30-day trial for you to explore. You'll be able to see docs there as well.
Mark Osborne
@sarahhum Thanks Sarah. Easiest change then I would recommend is putting your docs out publically - that would provide a much better picture for what's involved. I'm still a little bit confused though, if I have to send my users to another site/page somewhere then I don't think this really adds anything we don't already have with something like Trello (we currently use Trello for collating product feedback and publishing our roadmap). Uservoice for example integrates with your app and allows your users to publish feedback from within the app itself, automatically capturing screenshots and other useful info. We stopped using Uservoice because the app itself it clunky and ugly, but this was really the killer feature. Is this something that Canny can do?
Sarah Hum
@mposborne Thanks for your feedback Mark, we'll definitely look into making the docs accessible without signing up. I've expressed some thoughts about Trello above but I'll paste it here: People are trying to make Trello work for this, but it eventually looks like this: https://trello.com/b/EpoYEYod/ha... We think Canny is way friendlier for users and more informative for teams. We hope to build out features for this specific use case to make it even more valuable. Yes! We have integrations as well so your users can post from within your product. This is an example of that: https://repl.it/feedback. Equipped with single sign-on, the experience is very smooth. We expect to build out some pretty powerful features soon (eg. the ability to see what your paying customers want). Thanks for your feedback!
Mark Osborne
@sarahhum That sounds much more intuitive, thanks Sarah. I'll signup and have a play. Def put this on your landing page somewhere - it's a biggie to know that customers can provide feedback without leaving our app.
Sarah Hum
@mposborne Will do, thanks again!
Jordan Singer
This is incredible. This will change the way that products are shaped early on, now putting more control in the users voice, which is so important. The execution here is top-notch, I'm excited to see where this goes.
Sarah Hum
We definitely agree that feedback needs to be heard, especially early on. As users, Andrew and I always hesitated to give feedback because we'd only get canned responses. Users deserve to feel empowered! Thanks for the compliments @jsngr

Been using for a while now, Sarah followed up with my issues pretty well and I'm no longer looking for an alternative to feature suggestion & prioritizing app.
Sarah Hum
@ahmetsulek Happy to have you Ahmet! Thank you for the feedback you've given us to improve Canny so far! 😊

Well done! The value prop is clear and compelling. As a small startup it's extremely important to collect feedback and plan the next big features. I believe your tool will help us to do exactly that. I look forward to your iOS widget, it will be useful for our app.
Sarah Hum
Great to hear @mingliangma! Be sure to upvote https://feedback.canny.io/featur... and we'll keep you updated 😊

The UX of this is absolutely brilliant. Very nicely done. You just got yourself another customer.
Andrew Rasmussen
@zedsq Aww, thanks! @sarahhum is a super talented designer that I'm so lucky to get to work with. 😊
Sarah Hum
@a13n @zedsq You are both so sweet, thank you! ❤️

Really awesome product that combines great design and usability to solve a real problem that entrepreneurs and product managers face. I used to use UserVoice for a couple of my apps, but since they changed their pricing model to an enterprise software model, I've been looking for a replacement tool. Canny looks like it would be a great alternative.
Sarah Hum
@henrythe9ths Thanks for the kind words Henry! We strongly believe that teams can be great at user feedback, even at scale.
Matt Samet
Is this similar to UserVoice?
Sarah Hum
@yozzozo Hey Matt! Thanks for your question. It was answered above but I'll copy it here: Great question, I'm glad you asked. UserVoice has tens (hundreds?) of employees across multiple offices, and we're a team of two. So it'd be super arrogant to say we're better in every aspect. They work with amazing customers such as Microsoft. UserVoice has moved so far upstream (towards enterprise) that they don't even have a pricing page anymore. Last time they did, it started at hundreds of dollars a month (billed annually). This leaves no room for the little guy, who still benefits greatly from building a community around their product and quantified user feedback. On top of that, we find UserVoice's admin tools to be over-complicated and their user-facing components pretty unattractive. We believe businesses want to invest in tools that their teams and their users love using (hence why Intercom is killing it).
