Does it make personalised AI recommendations based on the user's allergies, preferences and more?

Niko Katsuyoshi

@dabud Recommendations are coming soon :) But currently you can scan products to see if they fit into your preferences with the personalization feature!

I'm so excited about the new innovation 🚀. curious from a user perspective do check it explain why a product is flagged as unhealthy?
Niko Katsuyoshi

@coinvenom Appreciate that 🙏 and yes Checkit always tells you why, not just “good/bad.”

When you scan something, it breaks the product down into simple panels and shows exactly what triggered the flag: additives, sugars, ultra-processed ingredients, sodium, allergens, etc.

Plain-English reasons so you actually understand what’s going on and can make the call that fits your goals.

Does it mean that the app somewhat followed or adopted most of the FDA's requirements, rules and regulations with respect to product consumption?

Niko Katsuyoshi

@kitchrisj Great question, and just to be super clear: we don’t replace or reinterpret FDA rules, but we do use FDA-defined data sources and labeling standards as part of how we surface information.

What that means in practice:

  • We pull from FDA-compliant nutrition facts + ingredient labels

  • We highlight FDA-recognized allergens

  • We flag things like added sugars, sodium, and certain additives based on FDA definitions

  • But we also go beyond FDA requirements by adding sustainability, ethics, and ingredient-quality signals the FDA doesn’t cover

So the app isn’t an FDA regulator but a layer of clarity on top of FDA-required information, with extra context to help you shop smarter.

@niko_katsuyoshi appreciate your detailed response

The design of the app and website is awesome! Do you build everything inhouse?

Niko Katsuyoshi

@pasha_tseluyko Thanks Pavel we appreciate you! All in house :) We have a great designer

“I’m curious — how does Checkit maintain detection accuracy when scanning items on crowded shelves, where multiple products overlap visually? Does the AR model isolate individual items, or does it rely on contextual cues from the scene?”

edwn winata

Really cool concept! One thing I’m curious about — how does Checkit handle foods that don’t have packaging or clear labels, like street food or mixed dishes?

Does the scanner rely mostly on visual recognition, or is there a nutrition estimation model working in the background?

Super excited to see how this evolves — it feels like a tool that could genuinely improve daily food choices.

Does it uses AI to generate health related information?

Does it make personalised AI recommendations based on the user's allergies, preferences and more? Love the app idea!!

Niko Katsuyoshi

@zerotox Hey Kumar, appreciate your support :) Yes! We have personalized scoring/metrics available in the app, so just toggle what matters to you and we'll flag those preferences/allergies in everything you scan!

Garret Kane

@zerotox yeah, exactly, it can create a more customized score experience, or you can use a more default setting (still good), like what a Yuka might use.
