It's difficult for me to explain in words the excitement I feel for this launch. Having worked as a freelancer most of my career, I was well aware of the abusive fees we are force to pay in most freelancing platforms, as well as the constant struggle of managing contracts, payments and invoicing all while trying to get the work done. In all honesty, being a freelancer used to feel like a very unbalanced and ironic job. Not only are we presented with the insecurities that accompany this type of work, but we also have to deal with the same problems non-freelancers have to deal with. I was honoured with the responsibility of spearheading the integration of payments in Contra on the Backend, and I honestly can't explain in words the liberating feeling of working alongside a group of people so seriously focused on breaking the "unspoken" rules of working as an independent. I can assure anyone reading this that: No, we are not going to charge you any comission fees. No, we will not take away the value you bring to our platform. No, we will not treat you like a money making machine. And: Yes, we will give you the tools you need to focus on the things you love. Yes, we will walk alongside you in every project you work. Yes, we will make sure you are the one getting value from the platform, not the other way around. The best part of all this is that this is just the beginning. We are just getting started and I'm so happy and excited to be working alongside a group of people with such beautiful values and a never ending ambition to make independent work the way it is supposed to be. Liberating, just and fun!
