Has automated software ever created more work for your team instead of saving time?

by•

We automated a tedious weekly task thinking it would fix our workload. At first it looked great and saved a bunch of manual effort.

Turns out the system couldn't handle small edge cases so now we have to manually review every single output anyway. It didn't really save time, just moved the work to a different step.

How do you decide which tasks are actually safe to automate without adding extra checks?

i've seen this happen too. the tasks gets automated but someone still has to check it all.

i'd look at how much time the chceking takes. if you chcek every results than the automation may not save much time.

I look at how good a script's by how many exceptions it has. If an architecture rejects than four percent of the data it gets it completely cancels out the savings from deploying it. Simple rules, for processing data don't work with data that is not structured. They end up needing a lot of people to check things again. That makes everything more expensive and hurts the profits.
