Please take responsibility for what you put out into the world

I can't believe the number of products posted here "anonymously."

Almost every product here is asking its users to provide some data. Even if it's just an email address. Which is obviously normal.

What is not normal is that you are asking for my data but stay completely hidden yourself.

I refuse to give you my data if I don't know who you are! Give me something at least!

I saw a couple of interesting tools during the last few weeks, but I didn't even try them because I see stuff like this on their legal pages:

  • "These Terms & Conditions form a binding agreement between you and NAMEOFTHETOOL."

  • "Welcome to NAMEOFTHETOOL (“we,” “our,” or “us”)."

  • "NAMEOFTHETOOL ("we", "our", or "us") operates the website at http-NAMEOFTHETOOL-com."

These don't mean anything! It's circular at best... "We are us, and "us" is this website, which is also us."

Let's say something happens... Who am I going to sue? Who am I going to contact? Who is responsible?

Now, if you feel like you are not ready to take that responsibility, please don't ask me to sign up. And yes, by posting to PH you are asking me to sign up!

If you don't have a company yet... Put your name on it. Add a couple of profiles. I need to know that you are for real.

What do you think? Am I wrong?

Totally agree. Anonymity and data collection is a trust issue from day one. If you're serious about what you're building, stand behind it with your name. Early users are already taking a chance on you - showing your face is the least you can do in return.

I actually started requiring company registration before taking on new clients or paying for an expensive tool after getting burned by anonymous founders who disappeared overnight :D

@rohanrecommends Absolutely! I don't even want to give a vote on PH to an anonymous project. I would never work with somebody who doesn't stand behind their product!

So true... I would love to see more real names here as well.
