What are the 5 tools you simply couldn't do your work without?

This could be related to your industry, or even a side project you're working on.

Here are my 5 (I couldn't function without them):

  1. Grammarly – proofreading my texts, not just posts, but also client communication

  2. ChatGPT / Claude – mostly brainstorming, help with copy, and summarising

  3. Figma – I can put the basic graphics together quickly.

  4. Translator – sounds incredibly old-school, but English is not my mother tongue

  5. Gmail – and not only for communication, but also for storing ideas and sending myself email reminders for posts

[and soon one more that I am working on – – prevents me from being banned on LinkedIn, so I will not lose my account.]

Everyone's list here is roughly the same five, so here is my filter instead.

A tool earns a slot if it survives me forgetting about it for two weeks. Every tool I have churned out of was one I had to remember to open.

By that test:

Claude Code, because the work happens inside it now, not in a window beside it.

A plain markdown folder in the repo. Not a notes app. Notes apps rot because nothing forces them past the day you wrote in them.

Obsidian, for thinking that is not code yet.

Fathom, because I stopped trusting my memory of calls a while back.

A spreadsheet, for anything I want to be able to argue with.

The one I cannot replace is the folder. Everything fancier added a step between having a thought and it being written down.

What fails the two-week test for you?

My daily toolkit is pretty simple, but I rely on it constantly:

  1. ChatGPT – brainstorming, writing, and problem-solving.

  2. VS Code – for development and quick edits.

  3. Figma – creating simple UI mockups and graphics.

  4. Google Workspace – docs, sheets, and collaboration.

  5. A reliable time calculator – I work with a lot of time-related calculations, so having a dedicated tool saves me from manual errors. I've been using Calculadora Hora () for calculating work hours, overtime, and time differences, and it's become one of those small tools that quietly saves time every day.

Funny how the most indispensable tools are often the simplest ones. What tool on your list would be hardest to replace?

My top five would probably be:

  1. ChatGPT for brainstorming and research.

  2. Google Search for verifying information.

  3. VS Code for editing code and content.

  4. Canva for creating graphics and thumbnails.

  5. – I use it to test and learn about privacy-focused Snapchat tools and keep up with new features.
