What are the 5 tools you simply couldn't do your work without?

This could be related to your industry, or even a side project you're working on.

Here are my 5 (I couldn't function without them):

  1. Grammarly – proofreading my texts, not just posts, but also client communication

  2. ChatGPT / Claude – mostly brainstorming, help with copy, and summarising

  3. Figma – I can put the basic graphics together quickly.

  4. Translator – sounds incredibly old-school, but English is not my mother tongue

  5. Gmail – and not only for communication, but also for storing ideas and sending myself email reminders for posts

[and soon one more that I am working on – – prevents me from being banned on LinkedIn, so I will not lose my account.]

ChatGPT is the tool I use most in my work; it has really helped me a lot.

1. Cursor

Cursor - most of Complibase was written in it. As a solo founder, it is the closest thing I have to a second developer.

Claude - spec drafts, edge cases I might have missed, and talking through architecture decisions out loud.

Supabase - auth and Postgres without having to run infrastructure.

SoloChief - mine. I built it because I needed one place to run the business instead of stitching together notes, spreadsheets and disconnected tools.

Loom - a 90-second recording answers a support question better than three paragraphs.

And the one that launched today: Complibase, for tracking permits and certificates across multiple sites before they expire.

Nika, the translator one is a good reminder - easy to forget how much of building in public happens in a second language.

mine's pretty backend-heavy, not much flashy content-tool stuff. Claude Code, basically pair programs half of finly's backend with me at this point. Postgres + Prisma for the whole data layer, can't imagine going back to raw migrations. Redis for rate limiting, locks, caching, all of it runs through it. Figma, mostly for reading designs not making them, I'm not the designer here. Notion, the one place decisions actually get written down instead of living in my head and getting lost. boring list honestly, all infra, no AI content stuff like half this thread

Mine would be: ChatGPT for research and brainstorming, Ahrefs for backlink analysis, Google Search Console for monitoring SEO performance, Google Sheets for organizing outreach and backlinks, and Gmail for communication with website owners. These five tools handle almost everything I need for link building and SEO.

My 5 from a UX Designer

  1. Dovetail - Amazing for analysing user interviews and feedback quickly. Also if you work in a complex domain it simplifies things very well. You can just chat to it and it pulls out what people said and shows you the source

  2. Magic Patterns - Ideation and prototyping at lightning speed to validate ideas and think through complex design patterns

  3. Cursor - Extremely simple IDE for a "non-technical" designer to move in to the realm of context engineering and vibe coding.

  4. ai - Very fast image generation and videos with fast image edits for storyboarding.

  5. CapCut - found it pretty critical for marketing my app, quickly creating editing videos together to make reels.
