What are the 5 tools you simply couldn't do your work without?

This could be related to your industry, or even a side project you're working on.

Here are my 5 (I couldn't function without them):

  1. Grammarly – proofreading my texts, not just posts, but also client communication

  2. ChatGPT / Claude – mostly brainstorming, help with copy, and summarising

  3. Figma – I can put the basic graphics together quickly.

  4. Translator – sounds incredibly old-school, but English is not my mother tongue

  5. Gmail – and not only for communication, but also for storing ideas and sending myself email reminders for posts

[and soon one more that I am working on – – prevents me from being banned on LinkedIn, so I will not lose my account.]

UptimeRobot has given me a lot of sanity back! I used to really stress about my app being down.

  1. gmail & full g-suite

  2. slack - best comms and collaboration platform between teams, hands down

  3. claude/chatgpt - like switching between the two because their capabilities often flip flop. Using Claude a little more now, although have been really impressed with ChatGPT writing and image generation recently

  4. apple notes (yes I have notion, google docs, all that. But still notes is core)

  5. BackEngine - the knowledge graph about everything about company i can use in the LLMs and not have to go through any other systems

Late to this one, my 5:

  1. Cursor: coding

  2. Supabase: backend and auth

  3. Vercel: hosting

  4. GitHub: version control

  5. Google Search Console: SEO

  6. Campix: my own project, camp software, yes I'm biased

Gmail- not just for emails but also for scheduling. Outlook is the superior option though.
ChatGPT - for strategizing, reports, plans, image generation.
Claude- for vibe coding.
Canva- design
Inshot- for video editing.

Claude - brainstorming
Figma - everything from small graphic designs, presentations to complex user flows, costumer journeys
Supabase - most of my projects are there + constant crons running for data
Gmail - communication
DataforSEO - Keyword Research, SERP and Rank Tracking

Mine, in order of how much I would panic if they disappeared:

1. Gmail: not just for email. It is my to-do list, my archive, and my memory of what I promised people.

2. Claude: mostly for arguing with. I explain a decision, it pokes holes, I change my mind about half the time.

3. Figma: I am not a designer, but being able to move a rectangle 4px is oddly essential.

4. Notion: where ideas go to be beautifully organised and then never looked at again.

5. Google Sheets: still undefeated for thinking through anything with numbers in it.

[And one I am building, Bump, because number 1 on this list is also where my forgotten follow-ups quietly die.]

Nice list, by the way, the Translator one is relatable in a way people do not admit often enough.

My top five:
1. Claude Code / Codex.
2. GitHub
3. MacBook
4. Thunderbird
5. Google Meets

As a solo dev:

  1. Git flow – clear branching model

  2. Notion / Linear – doc, notes, global tasks and lifecycle

  3. local Jenkins – instead of hosted CI

  4. Playwright – simple E2E, screenshots, GIF

  5. Claude Code – code, debug

Fun question for a Friday afternoon. Gotta love the weekend ;) Here we go:

  1. Claude / ChatGPT for brainstorming, coding and problem-solving

  2. VS Code – much to my own surprise :)

  3. MacBook + iPhone – basically my mobile office

  4. Final Cut Pro

  5. Paper and a marker – still surprisingly hard to beat


    Apparently I’m more dependent on Apple than I thought. 😄
