I got burned by this. My site says things like "152 label formats" and "114 countries" on hundreds of pages. When the real count changed, prose across dozens of pages kept the old number for weeks.
I have been commenting on launches here most days since the end of July. One argument has come up in about a dozen of them without me planning it, and twice the maker went and found the same defect in their own code afterwards. That seems worth writing down properly rather than repeating in other people's threads.
The shape is always the same. A system has a value that means healthy. It usually does not have a separate value for "I could not tell". So the second collapses into the first, and it collapses in the direction that looks fine.
Something we keep noticing: even when speaking a prompt would be faster, we still type it.
Voice feels great for quick asks like "set a timer" or "what's the weather" and awkward for anything that needs revising mid-sentence, or reading back a complex answer.
Minimalism and modernization has had its grip on not just the tech industry, but just about everything, for a decade plus now. From products and branding to entire company cultures, I believe it's all harming us in the long-run and the effects have been showing for awhile now.
You can even take a look at AI as well, so many tools feel sterile and transactional, entirely focused on automation, maximizing business operations and maximizing profits. It's efficient, sure, but where's the soul? The creativity? The humanity?
Product Hunt has always felt like a place where underdog founders can try their luck not with VCs, but with a real community of builders. It reminds me of what made the early internet so special: it was a place where fragmented groups could find each other and power up together. For my personal use, as a maker, historically it s been more about supporting my friends' companies when they had launches and now I use it to keep up with the continues rollout of new tools mostly aimed at makers looking to vibe and make faster.
Right now, I feel anxious for America (and the world) feel from political chaos and our economic prospects. Resilience in our community has been a source of strength. LGBT are also natural contrarians to the status quo to such an extent I would say it is even a builder superpower.
I've had two discussion threads rejected on Product Hunt, and I'm genuinely curious about the review process. I understand maintaining quality, but I'd love to know what usually leads to a rejection. Is it the topic, wording, or something else? For those who've had threads approved, what did you learn that made the difference?
Our team is hitting a classic scaling bottleneck, and we need some technical advice and tool recommendations from fellow makers who have taken their apps global.
Right now, our core team only has English and Chinese language talent. Our product is English-only, but we re starting to see strong organic interest from non-English speaking markets like Japan and Russia.
We want to prioritize using AI or platform automation for localization, but we are terrified of translation accuracy and the heavy engineering required to proofread everything. For our marketing videos on YouTube and Facebook, the experience is incredibly seamless we just provide our English subtitle files, and the platforms handle the multi-language translations automatically. What we love most about this is that users trust platform-level translations more, which naturally shields us from user complaints if a translation error slips through.
