Worried this was only done so they could support more ad formats like movie trailers.

I rarely take vertical photos, but it would seem vertical photos are the big winner for screen real-estate in this update.

I think it's a good idea but it was one of the defining attributes of IG. Sometimes you get more creative when given some constraints. I'm curious to see how people react to the change (e.g. % that move away from square). I'd like to try it out but it's actually not in the version 7.5 I got yesterday (in Canada).

What happened to custom locations?

Noooooooooooooo, I liked the square.

Hopefully this'll allow for more creative uses of the platform too. Seeing three square photos making one landscape shot is one of the best so I wonder if we'll end up with even wider shots!

Oooooh. o__o Curious to test this out and see how my profile will stretch to accommodate these new sizes. I've seen some pretty clever branding with the forced square format (such as entire stories/puzzles put together when you view a profile as a whole).

Finally! I was just complaining about this a few weeks ago because I took so many great panos on my last vacation.

Will be interesting to see how the visual rhythm of the feed feels now that the cadence will have a mix of short and long instead of the regular square after square that it was. Glad to see you are taking steps and continuing to progress. Look forward to the update.

I've updated but I don't see the portrait and landscape options, but, sounds awesome to me! To the people wondering how the profile will look, seems that it will be always the same with square "thumb", just check @mikeyk profile! =)

@mrdobelina Same here. Updated to 7.5, but the new photo layouts are missing. I'm in Europe, so probably they'll roll that out later? I'm sure @mikeyk will let us know.
