MTV stopped playing music videos 20 years ago. MTV REWIND brings back the golden era of music television - 35,000 videos spanning 1970-2025 across 8 channels (70s, 80s, 90s, 2000s, 2010s, 2020s, Yo! MTV Raps, Headbangers Ball).
No ads. No algorithm. No login. Just press play and discover music the way it used to be - completely random, completely free.
Built in 48 hours as a passion project. The nostalgia hits different.
Hey Product Hunt! π
MTV was how I discovered music growing up. You'd turn it on and just... watch. No algorithm deciding what you see, no endless scrolling - just pure random discovery.
When MTV shut down their 24/7 music video channels after 44 years, I felt genuinely sad. So I spent last weekend coding this from my apartment in Albania.
48 hours later: MTV REWIND - 27,000 music videos spanning 1970-2025.
8 channels: 70s, 80s, 90s, 2000s, 2010s, 2020s, Yo! MTV Raps, Headbangers Ball.
The random shuffle is chaotic perfection. Last night I got Depeche Mode β Metallica β Cardi B in 10 minutes. That's the magic of true randomness.
Completely free forever. No ads, no login, no algorithm. If it brings back memories, there's a coffee button to keep the servers running.
Would love to hear what you think! Any bugs or channel requests, let me know.

This is what the internet should be. Built in 48 hours and already a cultural rescue mission with 35K+ videos? Insane. The random flow is so refreshing after years of curated feeds. Just discovered the triple-click secret β nice touch! π₯ Rooting for this to live forever. What channel are you bumping most right now?
@hkklaus97Β for me mostly been living in 120 minutes and unplugged! Thanks for the kind words, I also noticed about 6% of site traffic was coming from Mexico so added a Sonido Latino channel and its actually REALLY GOOD.
@flexasaurusrex 120 Minutes + Sonido Latino combo is killing it! Thanks for the fast update β the random magic is real addictive. This needs to live forever π
@busmark_w_nikaΒ Nope! It's been running strong for over a week now with 1M+ visitors. The videos are sourced from YouTube (with automatic fallback when things get region-blocked), so as long as YouTube exists, MTV REWIND exists. We've already had Rolling Stone cover it and the NYT wants to interview us about it. This is built to last. πΈ
TV shut down their music video channels after 44 years. So we brought it back.
35,000+ music videos spanning 6 decades (70s-2020s), organized into 14 themed channels - just like the real MTV. No algorithm. No ads. No login. Just press play and let chaos reign.
π₯ ALREADY VIRAL: - 1M+ page visits in 8 days - Featured in Rolling Stone, Billboard, VICE, Gizmodo, Boston Globe MANY others - $15K+ in donations (100% free forever)
πΊ CHANNELS: MTV 1st Day (Aug 1, 1981) β’ TRL β’ Yo! MTV Raps β’ Headbangers Ball β’ MTV Unplugged β’ 120 Minutes β’ MTV2 β’ 70s/80s/90s/2000s/2010s/2020s β’ CLUB MTV β’ Shuffle All β¨ SECRET FEATURE: Triple-click the logo π
Built with β€οΈ as cultural preservation. This is what we're bringing back.

This is incredible nostalgia done rightβinstant, ad-free MTV vibes with 24/7 channels by decade, Yo! MTV Raps and Headbangers Ball feels like a love letter to music TVβs golden era.
No algo + no login is kinda refreshing honestly. Howβre you handling licensing/rights for 35k videosβ¦ are these embedded from YouTube/Vevo or hosted yourselves? Also curious if thereβs any βscheduleβ vibe like old MTV (blocks, VJ intros) or itβs pure shuffle
@amitpsharmaΒ All publically available video files hosted on YT, no license rights required. It uses the YT API wrapper with vanilla.js as the front end with a very minimalistic scaffolding and obvious vintage appeal. Probably the most elegant set up I've ever engineered mostly born out the necessity of wanting to be able to watch these videos forever, glad its resonated with others as well!
this is awesome! Just like the old days Random great music playing without fucking AI algos keeping you in a cell! Kudos guys!
Monetization idea: To keep the good music vibing and make it exclusive as it gets on ads. Do one ad (max 20 seconds) every 5 songs. And you are golden. Ad space becomes exclusive so good money and it doesnt fuck up the flow... 20 seconds ads for every 15ish minutes of music is a great ratio!

@zeiki_yu Thank you for saying! That's exactly the energy as a musician, music lover and archivist I was going for.
We must give a thumbs up for this great sentiment
