I admit: I'll never have a 235-day streak on here, but I’m okay with it. You?

by

I started hanging out here regularly about a year ago, and I quickly had to accept one truth: I'm never going to hit a streak longer than 5 days.

Why? Because, honestly, I like logging off on the weekend.

Obviously, I love the products and the people here.

But I feel like, sometimes, we could spend our time better than just staying online.

Many platforms, from social media to professional networks, use "streaks" to keep us hooked. It makes sense for their metrics.

But as founders, does it actually serve us?

Is it just a matter of showing up every day for the sake of it, or does it bring actual value?

I believe you can drop into a community twice a week, leave a deeply insightful comment, support a great launch, and contribute infinitely more value than someone who just logs in daily to click a button and keep a fire emoji alive.

When we subtly penalize people for taking time away from the screen, we risk reinforcing the exact "always-on" hustle culture that burns so many of us out.

We might just be feeding the algorithm rather than actually building our businesses or living our lives.

I'm not criticizing PH in particular, just a system that has become a habit for many.

Do you feel compelled to maintain the highest possible streak count just to stay visible? And if you manage to achieve a high streak, what are the advantages of it?

I get your point and sometimes also think that I could spend my time better.

On the other hand, I like community, I like being informed about what happens.

As soon as I created a habit, I want to maintain it as much as possible – tho sometimes I feel like a slave. LOL.

Anyway, I know people who only open the app so that one day is counted and leave the app. Just 10 seconds-long action to count that streak.

@busmark_w_nika I understand the idea of keeping updated and building a community by being there every day, and that is certainly important and beneficial for everyone.

But, I'm curious, would you say that your experience on this platform changes if you, for example, did not log in once every month or something like that?

@pamela_arienti I would probably be without insider info. Product Hunt helps me to keep up with the latest trends, which would affect my work (I report daily within the team on some good, useful tools).

@busmark_w_nika Oh cool, I didn't know that! Well, in this case, your regular online presence has a real impact on your work and is essential for you, so that really makes a difference.

@pamela_arienti It is sometimes difficult not to repeat myself in the news, because every AI product looks similar or there are minor changes. But we agreed on to deliver AI news every day :D
