@chrismessina hey Chris, long time! One question at a time ;) My opinion, we need to have open conversations on copyright law being used 99.9% of the time to actually limit creativity versus expand it. I’m original from the art space, studied art for my degree actually. So turning this back on you, what do you think about copyright law today. Does it work properly? Or does it hurt artists primarily since it is outdated. For example. You hunted Sora, you know that wouldn’t pass copyright muster like most GenAI models today. @chrismessina btw I think you are confusing and mixing patent law with copyright law. Both need updates though. I'd recommend looking at the history of the insulin patent for the reason we need generic drugs. Creator sold the patent for $1 so everyone could have free access but with abuse of patents up until a few months ago it could cost an individual $1k+ per month in US leaving people to skip so they could eat. Trying to understand the point here a bit. Are you anti-generic / accessible drugs?

@nathantross good to run into each other again. :) Hopefully you remember that I like to serve as an internet provocateur (i.e. a well-intended trollish sort?) in poking at this. I would agree that IP law generally (though there's much that's been settled) is being upended by generative AI. "Fair use" didn't contemplate work being reduced to a set of vectors and those vectors and embeddings being remixed at scale across the entire internet. I'm not familiar enough w/ the economic intention of these laws in terms of degree, only that the concern of a government-granted monopoly over an ephemeral thing like "an idea" or "an expression" was meant to prevent copies of the original work from eroding the value of the original work. It was meant to encourage people to publish and share their ideas sooner, rather than hoarding them for fear of the ideas "being stolen". But abundance mathematics does require a rethinking of these rules and laws, but there's a real hard problem around equitable redistribution... Should we move towards a UBI-style approach to support all creators, or should we rely on market dynamics which currently favor those who either can afford lawsuits (e.g. The New York Times) or those with existing massive followings (e.g. someone like Elon Musk who constantly appropriates memes and jokes from accounts with fewer followers on X)? Doubtful we'll resolve it soon, and your site only pushes the question further forward.

@nathantross I'm not getting them confused; I'm asking general questions about IP protections. Patents protect novel and non-obvious inventions and technological innovations, whereas copyright protects original artistic, literary, and intellectual works of authorship. They serve different functions in the market because one is about applying techniques of production to industrial products whereas the other tends to center on expression, presentation, and information.

@william_jin I use it as a jumping off point for brainstorming. But another way is replacing presentation images with it. What's really cool you can take live photos and use them to transform into more elegant versions. Here's an example of a photo I took with my watch transformed...

@nachodeh amazing feedback! We focused on lower sizes for speed but maybe that's a variable we can add. Similar to quality of jpeg export. Also for instructions. Do you mean you can directly edit the prompt or add a new prompt on top? Any extra detail here will go on our sprint board ha

@nathantross thanks! Yes, I'd like to provide an image as a starting point, but add instructions for editing the image. Eg. let's say the original image is a blue car on the highway, and I'd like to be red

@nachodeh thinking of UI. Would you like 1. defined prompts 2. Open text field that you can write into 3. Both. Other question would you prefer multiple images at once or prefer one image with higher quality

@nathantross Definitely open text field where I can give custom instructions. Re image, just 1 with HD quality. I could see myself using this for ads and other commercial purposes, but with the current definition, the assets are unusable
