Almost four years ago, we launched AI Lawyer. Today it ranks #1 organically on Google for "AI lawyer" and has become the leading legal AI product for consumers.
Tens of thousands of lawyers have used it, and their feedback kept pointing to the same gap. Legal tech had plenty of research and drafting tools. Legal CRM and legal practice management software were still stuck in the pre-AI era. So we built Referent, an AI-native legal CRM and legal practice management platform for solo and small law firms.
We recently opened 20 spots for a closed beta. We received more than 450 applications in less than three weeks. That made the decision easy: we opened the beta to everyone.

What does the product do
Referent is an end-to-end platform for running a law firm. It goes beyond being just an AI lawyer by helping with intake, matter management, documents, deadlines, email workflows, follow-ups, CRM, and billing prep.
Why I endorse it
I’ve seen a lot of tools built for lawyers, but most solve only one part of the workflow. Referent stood out because it feels like a complete operating system for a law firm, and that full-stack approach is why I’m happy to endorse it. :)

@gproduct The jump from an AI research tool to an AI-native practice management system makes a lot of sense. Curious about the “matter management” side, when something changes in an email or client conversation, can Referent automatically update the matter, deadlines or follow-ups, or does the lawyer still review and confirm those changes?

We use Attio, and everyone's emails are integrated into the CRM. I can't imagine how lawyers, with their professional distortions, can give AI permission to read emails 💀 In any case, good luck with the PH, the product looks great, lawyers should check it out.
@tanjum Most of them react the same way on the first call. Two things usually settle it: nothing goes to a client without the lawyer approving it, and every action lands in an audit log. Gmail and Outlook are both verified with Google and Microsoft, workspaces are isolated, and we don't train on customer data.
Plenty of firms still start with a separate inbox for inquiries and widen it later. Thanks for the good luck.

@angelaaa Adding to what Alex said: we price for solo and small firms, not for BigLaw budgets. The average lawyer bills 2.9 hours of an 8-hour day, the rest is admin. That's the part we sell back.

Does Referent provide visibility into which tasks are consuming the most time across matters?
@jackthompson68 Time logs are linked to cases and clients, so you can see what you spent your time on. Voice input is also available: you can describe what you did after a call instead of entering that information later.
@darly_selby Not in terms of numbers. All agent actions are recorded in the activity log, so you can see what was done, but we don’t convert that into hours saved. However, I should add that before working on the project, we conducted research, and the answer was the same across the board: case intake, email management, data entry, and meeting deadlines.
@darly_selby I'd add this: firms in our beta didn't count saved hours. They just noticed free evenings. Intake used to be a 40-minute call. Now it's a link you send.

Can Referent learn a firm's preferred workflows, templates, and document style over time?
@iris_carr Yes. It’s all based on the firm’s memory: the longer your firm works within this system, the more it learns, how you run a matter, what your documents look like, and how you phrase things. You provide your own templates, and agents draft from your matters, so the draft already reflects the client and the case.
@iris_carr My favorite part of the product, honestly. Old practice software was a filing cabinet. This one is more useful in month three than in week one, because by then it knows how your firm works.
