Nice job Pieter. 2 Questions - 1. How is it gonna help you ? 2. Are you gonna be closing it if someone builds replica of Remote OK just like they did it with NomadList ?
levelsio
@deadcoder0904 Great questions! No. Remote OK has had a public RSS feed for years now. Now I've built this full API firehose in JSON. The goal here is increasing the amounts of applicants a remote job gets so that the company can recruit from a bigger pool of hiring talent. By increasing distribution (through this API), hopefully that goal is reached. So opposite of the Nomad List API: the more people use this, the more valuable a Remote OK job post will be for companies that are hiring remote workers.

@deadcoder0904 @levelsio So companies will be actually posting a job offer on all the sites that use the Remote OK API just by posting the job offer on remoteok.io... smart!
levelsio
@deadcoder0904 @mauriciob91 That's right! Higher distribution means more applicants. Long term I could also pay the participating sites if they help forward the hired applicant!

@deadcoder0904 @tcodinat Exactly. I keep track of that through HTTP Referrers (yep they still work if it's both HTTPS), but will improve on that later.

@levelsio How often will the data be changed?
Matt Lea
Do you have any swagger docs on how the API is setup? Any SDKs? ( I may have missed a docs link somewhere) Thanks Pieter, as always great work
levelsio
@schematical Yep, I'll add docs in 24h. I wanted to get this out to the world as soon as it was working so everyone could start using it!
Michael Barton
@schematical I had the same question because it looks like the api is just slug/id/epoch/date/company/position/tags/logo/description/url for each job description with no way to search or narrow down the returned list. I look forward to the docs and integrating it into a project!
Matt Lea
@levelsio Thanks. Out of professional curiosity where are you hosting everything?
Matt Lea
@michael_barton1 Cool, thanks!

@schematical I think he's using Linode (source: https://levels.io/how-i-build-my...)

Hi Pieter, already have a chrome extension called Remoteable using the API here https://chrome.google.com/websto... Maybe check it out and give your blessing? 🙂
Kevin Bravo
@lordzouga Awesome !

Does this support any kind of filtering, Pieter?

Hi - this is great, and can be super useful to build upon! Quick question - is the date key when job went live on the source site or remoteok? And do you consider updates on the source site in any way?
levelsio
@adityarao310 Thanks Aditya! On Remote OK! Yep, I'm considering adding "job is closed" for example to make it easier for recruiters to signal they've filled a role.
Kaushik Thirthappa
@adityarao310 @levelsio That would actually be helpful. Thank for releasing the API.

Hello Guys. I'm from Brazil and found remote ok recently, and I did like it. Then I decided do an iOS app using the remoteok.io.json. Now, I'm finishing the app. It isn't finished I finished approximately 85% some things are missing yet. I would like to know if I can send to app store and publish the app. If you can see the app demo, I share on my youtube account. https://youtu.be/FSanKBmH7is

Wow - nice work as always Pieter!
levelsio
@sammcallister Thanks Sam! Hope this is useful.

@levelsio what about that 80% coverage? what is not included?
levelsio
@neuling2k I mean the 80% is an estimate of the coverage of remote jobs we have. That means most remote jobs on the web are available from Remote OK
Rik Nieu
Wow, just in time! I am about to start a new project aimed at remote workers. Thanks Piet!
levelsio
@riknieu Enjoy RIk!
