š Do you filter your friends?
I guess itās not just me...
We all have friends who inspire us, challenge us, and help us reach our goals. We can count them as part of our building team too =D
But alongside those friends, there are others who drain your energy, fill your brain with unnecessary info and leave you unable to continue working as you planned after meeting them!
While building RunEvr, weāve introduced quite a few filters. And one of the important ones is the friends filter =D
These days, I interact with very few friends and relatives - mostly those one or two people who genuinely support me throughout this journey.
What's your approach to this?
Do you consider it selfish to filter your social circle?
Or do you also choose your surroundings carefully to protect your energy, keep building and move forward?
Let's discuss!

For me, it is necessary to set filters for different types of friends. In some cases, some friends can turn into toxic ones, which can affect our own energy and emotions. To stay positive, selectively filtering out friends is a good approach.
@stan_xu1Ā what do you think, is it possible that weāre the ones the other half of people talk about, saying that we drain their energy? =DDD
@adanaĀ Maybe. Cuz human beings are complex, and no one can guarantee that they will present a "perfect" side to others in any situation. What I mean is that if the real me causes trouble for others, I would be very willing to let others set a filter for me.
@stan_xu1Ā I guess if thatās your mindset, youāre definitely a great conversation partner, and people wouldnāt need a filter when talking to you. =D
@stan_xu1Ā @adanaĀ Quality over quantity really hits different when life gets busy.
@stan_xu1Ā @peter_humphrey1Ā Yes, quality is the key
@stan_xu1Ā I think choosing your circle carefully is healthy as long as you're also willing to ask yourself what kind of energy you're bringing to it.
@stan_xu1Ā I like that you're leaving room for self-awareness here. None of us gets it right all the time.
@stan_xu1Ā Fair point! I think the healthiest friendships are the ones where both people can be honest without feeling attacked.
@stan_xu1Ā Two genuine friends can be worth more than a hundred connections that never go beyond small talk.
This is not always easy when it comes to family. You can care about someone and still need a les space from them.
@_claudia_lynnĀ yes... when you love your parents so much, but they keep calling you in the middle of a meeting to make sure youāve eaten that day, that can be the hardest problem to solve =DD
@_claudia_lynnĀ This is probably one of the hardest boundaries to set because love and personal space can absolutely coexist.
@_claudia_lynn Exactly. Needing space doesn't automatically mean you care about someone any less.
@_claudia_lynnĀ Especially with family, because even a simple boundary can feel like you're hurting someone's feelings.
@_claudia_lynnĀ I wish more people understood that being close to someone doesn't mean being available every second of the day.
Totally agree with this ! When you are busy building something you really need to save your peace and energy>
@_livia_benemondĀ how do you even manage that? like with friends, parents, family, relatives and all that
rus
Naturally, you will stop seeing some people because your style, hobbies, habits and work may also change.
A good example were my classmates. During high school, they arranged a cottage and went there to drink. When one of the classmates wanted to have this same meeting two years ago, many former classmates refused her, they only agreed to sit outside for a few hours ā because they are already in a different phase of life (they have families, children), they work, they are just somewhere else mentally.
It is a part of evolution.
Some people are gone, some people will come.
@busmark_w_nikaĀ That has a sad side to it, though...
I like all the filters, concentration, work, and all that.
But I canāt to let my inner naughty child go away =D
So itās kind of a balance between being a serious, focused professional and still being a curious young one.
@adanaĀ sometimes it is sad, but time is limited, and you need to decide what will remain and what will go. If some people align, the journeys will intersect. :)
@busmark_w_nikaĀ True ! =)
I'd rather have ''2 real friend'' who support what i'm doing than a big group that desn't get it.
@siqixiaĀ Agreed! When I was younger, my grandfather kept telling me that, but I didnāt really get it back then =)
@siqixiaĀ Exactly! You don't need everyone to understand your vision, just a few people who genuinely believe in you.
@siqixiaĀ And the best part is not having to explain yourself every single time.
I donāt think itās selfish. Your time and energy are limited, so itās fair to spend more of it on people who support you. It doesnāt mean cutting anyone off, just choosing who gets the most of your attention....
@oliver_graf1Ā Sometimes it seems that someone is supporting you, but right after meeting them, you feel drained...
@oliver_graf1Ā Sometimes you can care about someone and still recognize that you need a different dynamic with them.
@martha_s_bakoĀ Agreed
For me, it's not about cutting people off. I just try to give my time to people who understand and support me.
@ibrahim_mustafhaĀ were there times when you expected understanding and support from someone close to you but didnāt get that?
Building something from scratch already takes so much mental energy that sometimes even a casual conversation can throw off your entire day š I donāt think filtering your circle means you suddenly think youāre better than anyone. Sometimes your priorities change, and you need people around you who understand that season of your life.
@maksymmalynovskyi05Ā I agree with every word you said! =D
Absolutely not selfish! Time is the most precious thing we have, and Iād rather spend it with people who inspire me and help me grow than lose it to negativity. For me itās less about cutting people off and more about choosing who gets my best energy. ā”ļø
@auranuccioĀ Yeah, agreed. We need to choose the Duracell ones, then? =D
@adana Ofc! 𤣠Or, at least, the ones with the good vibes only!
Interesting. As I've been building Alynd I've certainly tightened my circle so that I interact far more with other friends doing the same - building businesses. I don't see that as being selfish it's just this high intensity time where I need the energy that comes from people who get it versus people who are working for someone else.
@samanthabatemanĀ That's why the only place I like to talk is PH =) Here everyone is like-minded.
