๐Ÿฑโ€๐Ÿ‘ค What should a Product Hunt launch draft look like?

byโ€ข

Iโ€™d love to share a few things I figured out while preparing our Product Hunt launch - and I'd love for experienced makers and hunters to add their own advice.

Hereโ€™s what I learned:

๐ŸŽฅ Cover video

If possible, include real people even briefly. Seeing the makers behind a product can create more trust and connection.

If you don't have people in the video, try to make it feel natural and real rather than simply showing product screenshots.

And if possible, choose a thumbnail where people can see a human face rather than just text or a UI screenshot.

๐Ÿ–ผ๏ธ Media

Have at least 4-5 images showing your product, features, or use cases.

But don't overload them with text. Keep the copy short, clear, and big enough to understand quickly.

๐Ÿท๏ธ Tagline

Keep it short - but make sure it communicates what your product actually does.

Not always easy, especially when you have a complex product =D

๐Ÿ“ Description

Be descriptive and clear. If your product gets featured, your PH page can also appear in search results.

Think about how someone discovering your product through Google or other search engines.

What would you add or change? What makes a great Product Hunt launch page in your experience?

On the cover video, one thing from making screen recordings for landing pages: leave the cursor's hesitation in. A take where the pointer overshoots a button and comes back reads as somebody using the thing, and the perfectly smooth take reads as a rehearsal.

ย Yes, I like seeing a real, live cursor too, when it feels like actual product use rather than just a polished presentation.

ย Those little imperfections make the recording feel way more natural like youre actually discovering the product rather than replaying a rehearsed script.

ย  ย While recording ours, we tried to make it polished, but watching it back, the real experience made much more sense =)

ย Yeah that small cursor hesitation makes the recording feel much more real Those little imperfections are easy to miss but they definitely make a product demo feel less scripted

ย This is really helpful, especially as Iโ€™m preparing for my first Product Hunt launch. Iโ€™m also curious about the visual side of the launch draft, what kind of videos would you recommend including beyond a founder introduction? And how many screenshots do you think are ideal to showcase the product without making the page feel too crowded?

Would love to hear what worked well for you and what youโ€™d recommend for a first-time launch.

I also enjoy demo process โ€“ย so you can partially be a part of the onboarding and demo testing.

ย Yes, demos are great! We're working on ours now to create a better onboarding experience and presentations.

ย Nice point. Will implement it during my launch.

I've been wondering a lot about this lately as we prepare our first launch. The video with the founders is the thing I was unsure about. Video content is working great on other sites and channels, so it makes sense that it works here too!

ย Yes, it definitely works, even if the maker appears only very briefly or simply shows themselves using the product.

ย  The founder shot that works is the one where you're using the thing, hands on the keyboard, rather than talking to camera. The talking-head intro is the part people scrub past, and it sits in front of the bit you actually needed them to see.

ย  ย yes, maybe the loom like video is the best approach.

The tagline advice is harder than it sounds. A short tagine can look clean but still leave people unsure what the product actually does. How do you balance clarity with making it memorable?

ย Let's check it here =)
Our is .
Does it make sense? We spent so much time to it haha =D

ย Haha, yes, it definitely makes sense! ๐Ÿ˜„ And I can see why you spent so much time on it.

โ€œAgentic project management environment for creativesโ€ clearly tells me what it is and who itโ€™s for. Iโ€™m actually working on my own Product Hunt launch, so Iโ€™ve been obsessing over the tagline too ๐Ÿ˜‚.

Iโ€™d love to know how you landed on this one. Did you test a few versions before settling on it?

ย  Memorable is what you get for free once it's clear, not a second thing you bolt on. The test I use: cover the product name, read the line to someone who does the job, and if they can't tell you what they would open it to do, swap an adjective for the object they touch.

ย Great test ! =) Thanks

As a solo founder who is getting ready to Product Hunt launch in a couple of weeks your tips here are greatly appreciated and I am learning so much. I love the idea of showing a face behind the product because as a solo creator I feel there is great pride in our work and to be able to convey that to an audience even with no words is something everyone can appreciate.
