It was trained on a ton of data/videos/humans to understand the connection between script (sentiment) and facial expressions and tone of voice - Emotions. It's our proprietary model and the first of it's kind globally!

Congrats, Synthesia team! It's so lifelike that it'll be indistinguishable soon. (That's another story!) The only distinction, I think, is the mouths, which don't quite touch like human lips do when speaking, but other than that, it's remarkable technology. Do the original faces modeled come from actors with releases signed for use worldwide by brands etc? I think I saw on your website some time back that you can scan actors (eg David Beckham) so they can communicate in many languages for global messaging (eg Malaria), which makes the messaging so much more impactful.
