How I built tools.video to streamline my own workflow π (An all-in-one media toolkit)
Hey everyone! π
I'm super excited to share a project I've been working on: tools.video.
As an independent developer, I often found myself frustrated with existing video editing and processing tools. They were either too heavy, packed with complex features I didn't need, or locked behind expensive paywalls. I just wanted something fast, straightforward, and accessible.
So, I decided to scratch my own itch and build it myself.
Balancing this outside of my regular operations work meant I had to be efficient. I leaned heavily into the "vibe coding" approach, using AI tools like Cursor and Claude Code to rapidly bring my ideas to life. Itβs amazing how these tools empower independent creators to ship faster.
My goal for tools.video was to create a "Swiss Army Knife" for everyday media tasks. It currently includes:
π¬ Complete Video Toolkit: Compress, convert formats, trim, crop, resize, adjust speed, merge clips, rotate, reverse, mute, and even grab quick screenshots.
π΅ Audio Utilities: Easily extract audio from any video. From there, you can trim, convert, merge, or change the playback speed of your audio tracks.
πΌοΈ Quick Conversions: Turn any video clip into a GIF instantly, or quickly check the deep metadata (Media Info) of your files.
Iβm sharing it here because I deeply value the insights from this community.
I'd love to hear your thoughts:
What is your current go-to tool for these kinds of quick media edits, and what do you hate about it?
Are there any specific features missing here that would make this your daily driver?
Any general feedback on the UI/UX?
Feel free to tear it apart β honest feedback is the only way to make it better! Thanks for reading.
