🚀 Road to 1,000,000 Votap users — Day 67 | Current: 1350

Apple owns 30% of my startup now?

Okay… not exactly 🤣 but it definitely feels like it.

I’m almost done making Votap fully GDPR compliant, so naturally the next step is monetization. Votap Premium is coming. Extra features, small perks, cosmetics. Basically moving from just building to actually generating revenue.

And then I ran into this:

Apple takes up to 30% from in-app purchases. If you’re in the Small Business Program it’s 15%, which is better, but still… you build everything, get users, and a chunk just goes.

So I started looking into Stripe and other options. But if you’re selling digital features inside the app, Apple basically requires you to use their system. Stripe works great, just not really for this exact use case unless you move things outside the app.

So yeah… that’s the game.

Curious how others are handling this... Are you using Apple IAP, Stripe, both? Any clever setups?

Download Votap in the App Store to try it out.

More tomorrow.
