How do you know a job is making money before it's finished?

Shipped a free construction job costing template for small contractors. It's a real working sheet exported to Excel: cost codes, budget, committed, actual, forecast and margin that compute while the job runs. No email gate.

If you run jobs, what's missing?

The field doesn’t need another Gantt walkthrough

A Gantt chart is useful for showing the full sequence and dependencies.

But the weekly field conversation usually needs something much simpler: what is ready, what is blocked, and who owns the constraint.

Construction PM often breaks when the same update lives in too many places

Something I ve noticed in construction project management:

The problem usually isn t tracking the work. It s keeping everything in sync.

An RFI gets updated in one sheet, the weekly report says something else, and the dashboard is already outdated.

When does a spreadsheet stop being the right tool for a growing team?

Spreadsheets often begin as the simplest and most flexible way to organise work. They are familiar, quick to set up and easy to adapt as processes change.

The problem is that the transition from useful spreadsheet to operational bottleneck rarely happens all at once. It usually appears through smaller warning signs:

  • Multiple versions of the same sheet start circulating

  • Team members overwrite or duplicate each other s work

  • Reports require repeated manual updates

  • Important processes depend on one person understanding the setup

  • The sheet becomes slower as more rows, formulas and attachments are added

  • Access permissions become difficult to manage

  • Moving to another platform feels more disruptive than continuing with the current system

While working on Wisegrid.co, our team has been exploring an important question: do growing teams really want to leave spreadsheets, or do they simply want the spreadsheet experience to become more scalable, collaborative and reliable?

Wisegrid - Your status page builds itself.

Your team edits rows in a familiar spreadsheet. Dashboards and rollups read live off those rows, so your status page stays current instead of one you rebuild every week. One plan, $19 per editor per month, free view-only collaborators.
