Matchmaking is one of the oldest jobs there is.
For twenty years the internet replaced it with search: filters, grids, you do the work.
Now a dozen products are trying to put a human style matchmaker back in the middle, except the matchmaker is software.
Hi Product Hunt, I'm Andy, founder of InTimid.
Dating app downloads have fallen every year since 2019, and 95% of subscribers are gone within twelve months. The industry calls it churn. I think it is a design decision.
Every major app screens on a photo before you get to say a word. That works if you are photogenic and quick. It quietly eliminates introverts, divorcees, widows and widowers, and single parents, who are a large share of the people actually looking for a relationship. They write thoughtful messages nobody reads and delete the app inside a month. The problem is not confidence. It is invisibility.
I know because I am one of them. Twenty years dating in Los Angeles as an introvert, then three years and thousands of dollars with a traditional matchmaker whose entire process for getting to know me was twenty minutes and a handful of questions. Three dates. No second dates. When they asked how many women I wanted to meet, I said: ideally one, if she fits. Nobody in this industry is built to deliver that answer.
So we removed the profile. No bio to write, nothing to swipe. kAI, our AI matchmaker, talks with you instead: ten conversations, 158 signals. Attachment style, how you handle conflict, what you actually need from a partner rather than what you think you should say.
Then:
kAI proposes a match
A human approves it, and at beta that human is me
Both people consent before anyone is introduced
Every user has passed mandatory ID verification
Chat, voice and video stay inside the app, so you never hand out your number
The video on this page is a real first session, unscripted, no prep on either side. The production voice is still in progress, so listen to the questions rather than the delivery.
The free beta opens today across greater Los Angeles and Orange County. Everywhere else, the waitlist is live.
One question, and it is not for votes: what is the one thing you wish a dating app had ever asked you? I am here all day.
Andy Da Costa, Founder
@andy_dacosta Congrats on the launch, cool product.
@lorina_balan I appreciate it. We worked very hard on this, and I hope it does well during the beta. Send any singles that fit our profile that are tired of swiping apps to try it out. Thank you.
The personalized conversation starters is cool but will it feel like talking to some LLM or like filling form in different format ?
@harini_mukesh Hi. you can check out this 3 min video of an actual session to get a feel for it. https://youtu.be/YGrnx5hsyZg this is an edit for brevity sake. the full session (1 of 10 in the app) can be sen here: https://youtu.be/fRgVKEGNV7E its 17 minutes. each session covers a different topic including " your past relationships", "how you deal with conflicts and their resolution", "travel preferences", "love languages and how you like to communicate with a partner" , "social battery", "financial responsibility", "sex & intimacy" each losing 10-30 minutes each. The duration varies pending on how you like to talk. If you dive deep and ask many questions kAI will branch and follow up. It's purposely intended to not be scripted, but a real conversation with turns and twists. We are creating a safe space where you can feel no judgment and really be authentic. I hope it’s not just a profile questionnaire, but a true exploration of your preferences and experiences.
Tell me what you think when you watch the video. From experience, it feels that people doing it themselves are much more engaged rather than watching somebody else answer questions. So check out the free beta to try it out yourself. Available on the Google Play Store or through Apple Test Flight.. https://www.intimid.net
@harini_mukesh I believe you misread this. It's not a conversation starter. These are fully 15‑ to 30‑minute conversations. This is not intended to be between users. This is Kai running an intake, asking you about your preferences, experience, and behaviors when it relates to relationships and dating. It takes turns, it twists. You can go as deep as you like. You can ask questions. This is not a pre‑written script.
oh man, the secure voice and video call thing is rad. i've been burned too many times with texting and just want to level up to real convos. maybe i'll actually try this instead of flaking last minute.
@therayess thank you for saying this. I appreciate that you see the value in being able to have a conversation with a partner before you commit to a full date. Maybe a conversation flows, maybe it doesn't, but at least you have peace of mind that they are who they say they are, they look what they say they look like, and most importantly, you can feel safe not having to give out your personal information. I can tell you how often I matched with somebody on a swiping app only to be told, “I’m not on this app often. Why don’t you give me your phone number, your email address?” Then they leave the site, leaving us vulnerable to scams, OnlyFans, cam portals, and the like.

the secure voice and video calls are kind of genius. i'm all about texting but those seem solid if i don't flake. reminds me of the old AIM voice chats, but like, secure and grown-up. could be the nudge i need.
@cepeshrc AiM VOICE CHAT, wow, that's a throwback to old times indeed. The whole idea is that you can feel secure knowing you’re protected by not giving out your personal information, but still be able to have a conversation with the partner to see if the conversation chemistry is there before you commit to an actual date.

It is 10x more difficult for older people.
It is 10x more difficult for people who are shy.
10x10=100x is a real hurdle.
Finally, there is a platform that tears down this hurdle.
Definitely worth a try.
@cecil_pang you are 100X correct, Cecil. Introverts and re‑entry daters have it harder than anybody else. They don't believe in performance dating. They're sometimes seen as less desirable, even though they appreciate character more than extroverts might. Single parents are often perceived as more trouble than they're worth dating-wise, which is a shame. Surviving spouses having lost a loving partner are often unfamiliar with current dating practices in the Tinder‑Swiping app ecosystem. It’s our intent to help these people be seen and heard for who they really are, giving authenticity a chance to matter again in dating. Rather than worry about how much attention your carefully crafted profile might give you, wouldn't it be nice to know you can just say what you want, be who you want to be, and still find people who like you for who you are and are aligned well?
I really like the concept and how you’re serving a segment of users that’s often overlooked in this space and niche you operate in. Congrats Andy! :)
@rohanrecommends thank you, Rohan. I think it's time for us introverts to finally speak out about being overlooked in this extroverted world!
