Do we need to create and maintain teammate links, or can we map an existing org structure and keep that in sync? - Is the whole meeting recorded as one shot? Can I clip a specific part of a meeting? @miheyk thanks Mykhaylo! - For now our organizing structure is relatively loose, we've built verbz in a way that you can get work done with anyone - both inside and outside of your org (as long as you have their email, you can create in verbz and it will be shared with them even if they're not a verbz user). At the moment the structure that we have in place is Spaces, which is basically an individual workspace for a topic/project that you and your team can define and manage members within. As we get more feedback from our users and their teams on what they need, we will explore ways to manage those connections easily. We'd love to hear more about your thoughts on this topic though as we're always looking to see what our users need. - we're less about recording the whole meeting and only recording the things that are important to the meeting. It is possible to record the whole meeting but we don't think thats useful since someone will have to go through the whole transcript. We think that during certain points of the meeting or immediately after the meeting, we decide what are key points and action items and we want to allow users to quickly record those parts! more than happy to chat more about these decisions

@miheyk Thanks Mykhaylo! You can create Spaces - aka channels with specific members and docs (a bit like teams) or you can do things dynamically straight from your contacts list. - We don't record meetings - just the stuff you want to remember or to do. We may offer integrations with some excellent meeting recording tools in future. When we dug into the meeting recording space, we found the strongest use case was a 'safety net' - a backup of a conversation. We are focusing on workflow and dictation. D you want to log into asana, or pull out your phone and say "Hey Hugh, do that thing for me". You're doing that today, just with a notepad or a gdoc.

@geigster @dexter_zhao thanks guys, both decision points make total sense, and I wish more tools (and people in general, ha!) emphasized just the important, salient, AND actionable elements of meetings like y'all do. Self-managed teams ought to work well for small-to-midsized groups, especially in cases where not everyone is within the same domain—this works well for Slack, after all. Will share more thoughts later on as our team has a chance to try this out in the wild!

Question: why do you think this "best of both voice and text" problem hasn't been solved before? Once we use it, it's obviously the better way, so... why've we struggled so long with both? Where have you been in my life? :)

@mlaurie @claireverbz @dexter_zhao @davedri Great question, why hasn't it been done.... because HUMANS!? 😁 We experience text and audio differently. If you think about how you write - you sub vocalize, form the sentence in your mind, then push it out through your hands. It's very deliberate, precise... slow. Talking is nearly sub conscious, words just pop out of your mouth. We make many little errors but course correct. Once you start transcribing all those little corrections it's a frikkin mess. This is why meeting transcriptions are painful to read. Our UX attempts to balance orderly words with fast input. That's why we push to talk, trains you to be more deliberate, takes a little practice, but you get a much clearer written artifact at the end that is still way faster than typing it, and has the humanity of voice. It's taken us a lot of different recording models and interfaces to get there. I'll leave it to our users to decide if we've succeeded or not :) / End Voice UX Nerd Out/

@geigster @claireverbz @dexter_zhao @davedri Thanks Dave, I think we're all still figuring it out because up until recently we had no choice but to text to a computer and talk to people. Now that both is equally possible, it's become a matter of trial and error to see what works best in what situations and there are no short cuts to avoid actually testing the interaction with your voice - so you have to build lots of working tech prototypes just to potentially find out it's the entirely wrong direction!

@mlaurie @claireverbz @dexter_zhao @geigster That's an interesting point, and makes me think of the intentionality of a Walkie Talkie. And how that creates a certain form of communication which often is quite clear and concise. Almost "action imperative" as a whole. I want to add that I REALLY appreciate that you maintain a high quality for the actual audio sent. I always found it odd that Facebook decided to send such abysmally low quality audio in Messenger. A/Bing that with WhatsApp (somewhat ironically since the acquisition) was like night and day. And the less said about Google's, let's be kind and call it "short-attention spanned but wide ranging enthusiasm" for voice products, the better. I'm going to enjoy Verbz before you get copied by Facebook and Google, and acquired by Asana, Box, or Dropbox.

Downloaded the beta this morning and am hooked! So far, the speech to text has been incredibly accurate, and it was so easy to get started. I just invited my team to join me. Looking forward to a lot fewer lengthy slack messages between our remote team. 🙌 Congrats @geigster and Verbz team!

@chrysb Thanks Chrys, we use one of the major platforms but there's a lot of extra work that needs be done to increase the accuracy. We've found that the sound architecture is really just one of those things you need to design for from the very start. It's taken a lot of trial and error with prototypes to get us to this point, and I still think we can make it better yet!

Awesome layout and idea. it looks really nice and im sure you added everything functionally but from a new user perspective: some notes on starting - i got into the app and title doesnt autocapitilize when i record in. then i accidentally deleted instructions, theres no undo function and i dont know what all the buttons do at the bottom so not sure how to use those now. is the only way to get back to my notes to save? anyway excited to see where you take this.

Love this product! I’ve been in the beta for just a few days but what Hugh and his team have built here is supremely helpful - wonderful for task management and dictation. My wife and I were just chatting about how we can manage notes and writing with two young kids running around - obviously Verbz. Thanks guys!
