Thanks for posting this. Here's a bit of a background story on Video Puppet: Three years ago some friends and I released an opensource tool and wanted to make nice demo and tutorial videos. When creating videos, I ended up spending most of my time doing things that have nothing to do with the content, but with the boring tasks around synchronisation and alignment. Recording voice narration turned out to be particularly problematic. It usually took six or seven attempts to record something without mistakes, and even then it just sounded bad. We paid a professional voice artist to narrate our videos, but that was expensive, slow, and when we wanted to change just two pictures in videos a few months later, everything had to be done again because video and audio were out of sync. Based on that, I started looking for ways to automate tasks that don't have to do anything with content, and that's how Video Puppet came to be. Video Puppet will automatically create video clips from images, align audio and video segments, add captions, display text on top of videos, apply transitions between scenes, and even create a life-like narration audio from your text. This means that changing things in the future becomes trivially easy. Just edit a text file to reorder scenes, change narration or update assets, and leave all the synchronisation tasks to the Puppet. The idea is to edit videos as easily as editing text. Scripted video also allows teams to rebuild tutorial and demo videos automatically when their application changes, using a CI/CD pipeline. For a quick demo of the key features, check out this video:

Although generated voice might not be for everyone, I found it amazingly good for iterations and experiments. Once you are happy with the content and the flow of the story, you can easily replace the generated narration with your own voice, or a professionally recorded audio. Video Puppet will take care of synchronisation, so the picture aligns perfectly with your voice. For people not used to working with scripts (eg marketing, sales, product people), there's also an option to use PowerPoint and just type up narration into speaker notes. I am experiencing the same pain you described. Version-controlled, generated voice, and markdown script are really exciting. Testing out the product and seems really solid so far. The video builds take a long time, but I can understand that it's a lot of processing power. Couple other things: - When I first landed on the homepage, I didn't quite understand the concept. The bottom "Video Puppet is great for" was the part that was very helpful - We're planning on using Video Puppet for our SaaS product tutorials. If all goes well, would be happy to provide a testimonial :)

It's great product and feels like a labor of love with lots of attention and real concern from the makers. Really makes it much easier to produce tutorial screencasts. With Video Puppet, instead of dreading video production, I look forward to it.
