An obvious extension of what Airbnb is doing. Look to all the major OTAs (online travel agencies) like Expedia and TripAdvisor for a playbook that Airbnb is likely to follow. They have all added other things travelers book to their booking platform. Airbnb is just an OTA for the peer-to-peer economy. All of the peer-to-peer meal and experience companies have suffered from struggling to aggregate demand and Airbnb does that at huge scale.
However, they will need to build out the specific infrastructure for each of these verticals to make listing and booking as seamless as it is on the accommodation site.

Really interested to see if this is finally the one that takes off. Was just discussing this topic as some friends have started something similar for adventure tours and they've been struggling to get any traction at all. My theory was that the prices were too high, which makes sense because nothing is streamlined. I like that Airbnb is concentrating their launch on specific cities. That seems like something my friends should have done.

@girltripping I think AirBNB will get the traction from their base of active users (travellers), and from their platform (hosts). Is hard to compete against this starting from zero with PPC marketing, etc.
They can scale it worldwide pretty fast, too. Their hosts are already there.
Big fat upvote for that one. It's a huge step forward sharing economy and skipping big companies. AirBnb is so powerful that might be starting this new trend (or maybe maintaining an existing one...).
