How do you like the new face of Kitty Coin?
Hi everyone!
A few days ago I spotted @rohanrecommends sharing PH’s brand new Kitty Coin leaderboard. This is definitely one of the biggest changes on PH recently.
Now it’s baked right into every profile homepage:

Gone is the old single total score + gold/silver/bronze medals. Instead we get a clean, multi-dimensional view that feels way more balanced visually.
To me, it actually pushes us to explore PH in lots of different ways. Even if we all have our favorite corners and strengths, it splits the old “history points” into several fresh dimensions—so we’re focusing more on recent activity and real momentum right now.
Super interesting shift!
What do you think? Do you like the new look? And what design thinking do you reckon is behind it?

I’m on board with the change, but I’m still a bit confused. What’s actually being prioritized - forum activity, being a maker, or being a hunter? How many points does each one get? Is there any kind of monthly or yearly competition? Are there going to be sub-awards like most active forum member, top hunter, top maker?
Honestly, the most active people seem to be the ones launching the most, plus those who comment a lot or hunt regularly. There’s not a huge difference. @busmark_w_nika @chrismessina @fmerian All of them - really active. But in the monthly rankings, I keep seeing people I barely notice otherwise. It kinda feels like being a maker earns the most points.
Would be great to hear something official from the team though. Maybe @aaronoleary can share a bit more info on this.
Product Hunt
@byalexai look for a launch on the leaderboard next week with full details. I'll let @catt_marroll and @jakecrump comment on point mechanics/ reasons behind them.

@catt_marroll @jakecrump @mikekerzhner Definitely looking forward to it!
@byalexai read my mind, I'm also unsure what exactly is being pushed with the change - I'm on board with increasing the focus on the KT, but I would really like someone to explain the goal + what actions trigger KT 😆
@fmerian Product Hunt feels like a niched Reddit for product/tech obsessives. :D
minimalist phone: creating folders
According to the leaderboard, it looks like being a maker is the best option because you can earn more(?)
But also curious about the motivation behind it... what is it supposed to bring to this platform (does it want more makers?)
For me, it is another new metric that gives me an overview of where I invest my time and energy most. But also giving it some value – should I be motivated to be a maker, or a hunter? Because my main motivation atm is to be present in forums.

@busmark_w_nika My intuition is that this change is trying to encourage:
more diversified participation
more focus on recent / mid-term momentum
more “stars” across different dimensions
broader visibility for more members — as @byalexai mentioned, the new leaderboard is surfacing lots of new IDs
more transparency
Earlier, it was easy to rely on accumulated points, now it looks like you’re pushed to stay active in different ways.
It will be interesting to see how this changes, how people engage over time, whether it leads to more thoughtful interaction or just more activity.
While I'm onboard for it, I'm curious to have a detailed understanding of what and how it's being pushed. Seems like PH is the Tech-obsessed Reddit now. Being active is the KEY to these.
