Why do you work at a startup?

by
Hey hunters! There are a lot of startupers here. And it is interesting for me why people choose to work for a startup. Personally, I like opportunity to learn something new everyday. My work is quite flexible so my responsibilities could change. And I really like it! What about you? Why have you decided to work at a startup? What is your favorite part of working for a startup?

Hello Daria Working in a startup transforms what you can do from "limited" to "limitless". It pumps a lot of adrenaline keeping you on your toes to be a vital part of a wonderful journey.
Daria
@satish_kumar_veluri Yes, absolutely!

A startup that expresses your unique soul-- your combination of virtues, values, life experience, and ambitions is the most effective and efficient path to wealth and satisfaction in a world of infinite leverage (code, content, crypto). To not build a startup that solves a problem you care about for a community you care about is a huge missed opportunity.

@tim_parsa2 You are right! Thanks for sharing!

There are so many different problems so solve, it's very easy to learn, grow and contribute across a number of different competencies and domains. The early days of products/companies come with huge deltas, and the wins are usually hard-fought but super satisfying. It also affords a unique opportunity to shape the foundation of a team's culture, rituals and practices in a way that is much different in established/older organizations. (You get to bring all your crazy new ideas to the table and try them out - which is a lot easier when the team is small and usually comprised of open-minded and energetic people)
Daria
@dismore Yes, I especially love working in a relatively small team!

We're now 300 people - so in many ways not a startup, but we still have the autonomy, trust, relationships, flexibility, and get-shit-done attitude of a startup - and I love it!
Daria
@nik_hazell Great! It's amazing that you managed to save this culture! Thanks for sharing!

It depends on what you're doing, but as a general rule, things change fast and they change a lot. People also tend to be more dedicated in startups than in other, more established companies. You're a part of something that can make a difference. You won't be shot down for going against the grain and suggesting new ideas. At the same time, you're usually expected to work harder than you would in other companies. Be prepared for long nights, working weekends, and checking your email constantly. But it's fun, and exciting. And a little scary too. Upgradecard.com

I love the ability to express my thoughts on every aspect of the product we create. Startups are extremely flexible, with zero to no bureaucracy. And I love a good challenge - creating a community for a new product is definitely the one 😁
Daria
@sonya_key_ No bureaucracy is a great benefit! Thanks for sharing!

Most probably because people are filled with enthusiasm and fresh ideas. There is always excitement about the future. Bdw, what do you like more- a startup or an established business?
Daria
@software_guy For sure - a startup. No bureaucracy, small teams, innovative culture are definitely for me! And what do you think?

I like the fact that in startup you should be a multitasker and combine various roles and positions comparing to what you normally do in already grown business. Analysts/researcher, designer, developer, marketer, finance and bunch of other stuff. You kinda grow and learn faster 🤓
Daria
@vitaligisko Yeah, working on multiple roles is great!
