I ve been chatting with other early stage builders and one theme keeps popping up is that there s so much important but not core work that needs doing (things like ops, research, content, or lead gen) and it all adds up fast when you re solo.
And hiring help early on isn t always possible (budget, trust, speed), trying to do it all yourself can be draining and distracting from core product work.
Curious how others are navigating this phase:
Are you using freelancers? Automation tools? Just doing less?
I m wondering if launching on PH is worth it and could use your take. I ve heard super mixed vibes, some folks call it a game-changer, others say it s a hassle.
What did your PH launch bring you? Traffic, early adopters, solid feedback, or surprises like media shoutouts?
What challenges did you hit, like spam or weak conversions?
China's new top paid app doesn't help you find a ride, order food, or socialize with friends. It just asks you whether you're alive.
The app, which translates to "Are You Dead Yet?" the presence of the "yet" suggests the developer probably isn't on the Bryan Johnson "don't die" train...yet) requires you to log in daily and click a button to show you're alive. Miss two days in a row and the app will notify your emergency contact. That's it. That's the app.
If anyone went through the situation of having lost everything, would love to hear about your story on how you got back on track! If not, would still love to hear about your hypothetical approach.
Following up on the first post in this series and the thread it kicked off on app distribution. I ran a two-week observation on organic distribution and want to bring the results back for discussion, not conclusions. Translation tool was used again, so please read past awkward phrasing.
The reason I am posting again : the same question that came up last time is still open for me, and I now have two weeks of data that only made it sharper. I would rather test my reading against yours than sit on it.
During our first launch today and I have been shocked by the volume / the literal flood of paid promotion solicitation. I've been kindly telling them "we don't have a budget for that but we would obviously love your organic support" but holy moly that is a lot of folks telling me they can leverage their community to "beat the system" and get organic votes. Obviously we all want to win POTD / week / month etc - but that kinda takes the fun out of the whole competitive nature of this PH Launch journey / what makes this community unique etc. I'd imagine the team does a really solid job behind the scenes flagging those upvotes and comments - but I do wonder if some of the real comments and real upvotes get lost in that shuffle due to this massive influx of pay for click day of promotion. Don't have an answer as we're in the throws of pushing the product but I wanted to know if other people shared this experience and from the @product team - I'd love to learn more about the vetting mechanisms you've got to limit this stuff (because I am sure its pretty robust haah!) Anyhoo - back to the launch pushing but - just thought it would be neat to share some real time thoughts and express my gratitude for those folks supporting our launch and the other products launching today!
After 3 months of solo building on evenings/weekends, I noticed my 7 9pm block is where ~80% of shipped code lives. Everything else mornings, lunch breaks, weekend afternoons turns into planning, browsing, or half-baked drafts that get thrown out.
Two things I had to change to protect that window: killing all notifications until 9pm, and doing planning the night before so I don't waste the shipping hours on "what should I build today."
