Smart move! Similarly to Facebook separating Messenger - I can see this following the same path. Monetization efforts surely to follow as the network effect proven successful time and time again.

Apps on apps on apps! Am I a stuffed shirt for not wanting yet ANOTHER Instagram app on my phone to do something that could be accomplished in the app I have now? Maybe I am. That being said, the tech nerd in me has to download it and try it. Lol.

I reckon this is being thought in a way that other apps can afford (and should be) thinking; not exactly Instagram.
Almost any decent chat app has voice, group video, geolocation, video, stories, webconferencing, bots, P2P/E2E encryption and other integrations.
The term messenger/chat itself has been morphed into what we could easily call mobile communication systems (MCS or MoCos).
This ecosystem is not only overcrowded at the moment, but it is also stagnated with sameness.
I see no real benefit for a text-link-photo simple chat app inside Instagram, which as a service, can’t really accomodate all these other popular (and better) things that other apps already do.
Unless they are planing to allow/sell images within the chat and make it something to help the native Instagram Imagery/Media Workflow, perhaps in a more business manner, the it’s just another fooken carbon-copy noise app..
.. pardon my French.
