i have been using my friend necklace everyday for the last 3 months, it wasn't that much helpful tbh, but it's cool to experiment, learn from new technologies and see how the product keep improving. definitely worth it

@massimokris I've been using my Friend for about the same amount of time, it really does all depend on how you use it and the context that you are in -- I've been using mine during the weekly sync meetings with the Friend community and it's great for having meeting notes to share with the community -- dogfooding Friend in the community is a lot of fun too :)
I've also had some very meaningful conversations with my wife that wouldn't have been captured if it wasn't for Friend and it has been helpful to our relationship using some plugins to analyze some of the conversations together as an objective 3rd party.
One of my favorite use cases has been wearing Friend during coworking meetups to get a summary of what everyone is working on and sharing as well.
Each week in the Discord there's a lot of great ideas bubbling up for plugins and integrations, the new updated Plugins just launched that can connect to outside apps like Notion, so the possibilities are growing each week.

@nathansudds 100% agree with you, depend on the context and use case. i like the product, doesn't make my life much better, but i'm a happy daily user. also, i think the plugins integrations is great to make it much more useful

Honestly, after seeing products like Rabbit fails, people knew the limit of tech and their trust are lost. I think the open source is such a great way to build trust, and on-device could be great for enthusiasts and the team can still expand into cloud one day with a similar model to note taking software, etc.
I think the open source, on device approach also solves a lot of concerns over privacy, but I think there are still a few things that need to be solve:
- how to pause so if conversation shouldn't be recorded - third party asked or privacy law is involved
- how to do the above automatically because the person is not aware that they can record voices around them
- battery life
Congrats on launching the product though @kodjima33 - it takes a lot of risk to build something that's quite controversial right now, but I like the approach ya'll took.

Hey Nik,
I'm particularly intrigued by its ability to remember conversations and prepare tasks.
How secure is the data stored in the device? How customizable are the notifications and memory assistance features?
Congrats on the launch!
I've wanted an open-source device like this for so long, and now we finally have something really promising. So excited!
Friend seems like it'll quickly live up to it's name, I hope to find time to contribute and help turn this into both an amazingly successful OSS project AND product.
I was going to ask how privacy is handled with this as I think it was the first concern many people might have, but seeing it is open source so, very glad this is the route taken. Best of luck!

I've been trying to do many of these things half manually. Recording calls etc and then going over them with AI to get the important points. Put having a device that does this for everything in you life seems like a game changer!
