🤹 What Can Claude Skills Automate?
I recently saw a reel where a girl was recording a Skill with Claude to find newly posted real-estate apartments every day.
She had specific filters - location, price, etc. and Claude would go through the new listings, find the ones that matched, collect all the relevant information, and create a spreadsheet with the results every day.
As someone who is not really very tech-savvy, I thought: this could be really useful for setting up small automations in an easy way =)
And now I want to brainstorm.
What else can we do with Claude Skills?
What repetitive things do you do every day that could be recorded as a Skill and then handled by Claude?
Maybe finding new opportunities, monitoring competitors, researching potential customers, collecting specific information, preparing reports…?
I’m sure there are many more interesting use cases I haven’t even thought of.

Having Claude collect chnages and put them in one report would save a lot of checking

@_tina_kim Agreed. The important part is to properly check all the points it recorded before running it.
Most of my day is handing work over rather than doing it, and almost none of it needs you to be a developer.
Slide decks. I say what the deck has to argue and who's in the room, and it comes back written and laid out. I edit instead of building.
The contact forms on my sites. Every message that comes in gets read, sorted, and a reply drafted in the right tone for whichever product it came from. I read the drafts and press send.
Meeting recordings. The video goes in, the transcript comes back, and with it a note of what was decided and what I agreed to do.
Paper. I scan it, it gets read, renamed to the date and the title, and filed where it belongs. I haven't named a file by hand in months. Same with turning a document into something the copy shop down the road can print.
The morning numbers. One instruction, and how many people came to my sites yesterday, where from and what they read, arrives as a single page I read with coffee.
Writing. For one site it looks up what's already winning on a topic, then writes something better than all of it, all day.
And the developer half, which I'll keep short since most people here aren't: the same idea applied to building and shipping the software itself.
What makes any of it work isn't technical skill. It's being able to say exactly what a finished piece of work looks like. If you could explain it to a new assistant on their first day, you can record it.
The part people find strange: nine tenths of my working hours are now spent with agents, one tenth with people. It isn't lonely. It's the most satisfying my work has been in 22 years, because the hours that went into repeating myself now go into deciding what to make.

@adana Yes, and they answer me straight away even in the middle of the night. The more you raise them the more loyal they get, so there's no stress in it at all!
The way I'd record a skill to find cheap flights and then never book them because I'm broke 💀

Job hunting could be another great one filter new posting by location, salary , skill and only surface the genuinely relevant ones.

I can see this being useful for content research too monitor certain topics every day build a running list of ideas and sources.

I’ve recently been thinking about filtering the news specifically around the fields I’m interested in. I think news filtering could be another great use case too.

The one I actually kept is the boring one. Every month I used to rebuild the same marketing report by hand out of four exports, and now that whole thing is a recorded set of steps I just run. My test is whether the task repeats and I already know the exact steps, because anything fuzzier than that I still end up redoing myself.

I built a Claude plugin for “finding relevant conversations" - Claude browses social sites in your own Chrome, saves relevant thread urls, and drafts replies for you using your existing Claude subscription.
I have to rewrite almost everything it drafts but at least it's finding conversations like this one.

I made a Chrome extension that gives you a quick summary of the person you’re replying to.
When you’re talking to a lot of people, sometimes it’s hard to remember what product they made, what you talked about before, or which other threads you interacted in.
With the extension, you get a short summary of your previous interactions and their product, so you can have the context right there before replying.
Recording a skill to find apartments before I even wake up?? Bestie this is the lazy girl job I have been training for my whole life ðŸ˜

Honestly the real estate example got me thinking about supplier price tracking for my small ecommerce shop. Comparing costs across vendors daily by hand is brutal. Might be time to finally sit down and record that workflow properly.
