šŸ“¢ What social media do you use as a maker?

by•

I’m not really a person who likes sharing my everyday life online =)

That’s one of the reasons I’m really happy to be part of the Product Hunt community.

I like being able to stay in touch with like-minded people and have everyday conversations about things we’re building, learning, and interested in.

But I understand that social media is a big part of today’s lifestyle, and it’s absolutely great that it gives people a way to connect, share, and find each other.

So, I’m curious:

Do you have social media as a maker?

What kind of things do you share there?

Is it mostly about your product, your journey, ideas, or something completely different?

And maybe you’d like to share your pages here - would be nice to discover what other makers are doing and follow along =)

Best

LinkedIn as my primary for building personal brand.
X for build in public
Reddit for getting advice from Chrome developers.

Product Hunt for building a community, chatting, advising.

Substack for sharing my knowledge (learnings in marketing and building a product).

I want to incorporate YouTube, Instagram, TikTok – talking about the LinkedIn restriction problem. And topics related to marketing.

Ā Video formats would be great in your case! I think you’d be a great podcast host too =)

Ā Thank you so much! :) Hopefully, I will make it a priority soon. :)

Ā Good luck with it ! <3

Ā Thank you :)

Ā  Ā I approve this message :). Go for it Nika!!

Ā wow! this list of media accounts can be overwhelming. It's almost a full time job to keep up on all these platforms. So my question is how do you balance your time to remain active and engaging on all of them?

Ā To be honest, it is exhausting, sometimes sacrifing my free time and sleep :D

Ā I think you should allocate a specific amount of time for each social media site. You have done very well building your audience and keeping active is all you need to keep it growing.

Ā Well, my most primary are LI and Product hunt :)

It is mainly LinkedIn for me, mostly progress updates and lessons from building rather than personal life. keeps it useful without turning into a highlight reel.

Ā Liked your approach! And does your feed look the way you’d like it to? I mean, the news, photos, articles - do they give you useful information every day?

Ā honestly mostly yeah, I've curated it enough over time that it's mainly builders and marketers sharing real lessons, not just generic motivational posts. Still get some noise mixed in but it's decent overall.

Ā Happy to hear that!
I try to do the same on LinkedIn, but yeah, still some noise there.

I use X mostly for maker conversations. the unexpected replies are usually more valueable than the posts themselves.

Ā Do you post consistently, or mostly when you really have something to show or ask?

I mostly use LinkedIn, Reddit and X to share thoughts and TikTok for videos I make about products (inlcuding the other platforms like Facebook and Instagram). I have currently built a system around these social media that allows me to write once and share my ideas, insights and project updates across them.

Ā Wow, great! And how do you solve the text-to-video part for TikTok?

I mean, if you write an insight or an article on LinkedIn, do you have some workflow for turning it into a video?Maybe using some kind of AI pipeline?.

Ā thanks :-) , I don't currently do text-to-video, mostly I create the video then sometimes use voice over. This is part of the product ie

Ā Oh, I saw your launch! Congrats on it. And it somehow fits perfectly into my thread here =D

Ā thanks :-)

I’m actually preparing to launch an AI-assisted VAPT platform on Product Hunt and would really appreciate any guidance you can share on preparing for a successful launch, especially around positioning, socila media enagament, building early engagement, and getting the community involved.

Would love to learn from your experience and any tips you’d recommend for a first-time Product Hunt launch

Ā I think the first thing you should do is get familiar with the community and its rules. Be active, comment, engage in threads, and start posting yourself on relevant topics.

Once you feel comfortable and ready, create a draft page for your product and go ahead with the launch.
And what about social media? =) Are you active anywhere?

Ā Thanks for the message, helps a lot. As far as social media is concerned, I am verymuch active on LinkedIn and Facebook but not so much in X. Please guide on social media posts as well.

Ā I’m not a social media expert, to be honest. All I know is that you need to be consistent with posting - that’s pretty much it =D

The best expert I know is She can definitely give you some useful advice, so you should follow her on LinkedIn - she shares lots of really useful stuff there.

Ā Thanks a lot.

I have been following and her ideas and posts are really worthy.

Linkedin is my top social media platform. There are several different opportunities for content creation, especially written content, which is ideal as a copywriter. It's also good for personal branding.

Instagram is my next one. Obviously, it's good for visuals and I use it to make short videos where I can talk and show people who they're dealing with.

Ā For a copywriter, I think it’s the best combo - LinkedIn for text oriented content and Insta for short videos.

I connected with you through LinkedIn - unfortunately, I don’t have an instagram profile =( but if you don’t mind sharing some links here, I’d be interested to take a look!

For me a good platform is one where people actually eply and share their own experience.

Ā I can’t disagree with that! And on which platform do you feel like that’s actually happening?

The best channel is where your customer is already on. Preferably complaining about the problem you're solving for. I'm on x and reddit for example because that's where founders are more honest about their struggles and achievements - and that's all that matter for me.

Ā Do you follow founders, or are there specific groups where the discussions happen?

What I've found is that it really takes dedication to become a strong voice in a social media atmosphere. To grow your brand, especially if it's digital, you almost are forced to have some sort of online presence. In today's world, unfortunately with all the spam, it takes more effort to stand out. With Vassant, I've been active on Substack for quite a while, but recently ramping up my activity. Long-form posts, short notes, and creator support all help grow your brand visibility and build community.

Ā I haven't been on Substack. Are there specific groups there, or do you mostly share your own experiences? How does it work?

LinkedIn for official announcements, plus reading and replying to industry news in people's comments.

Product Hunt, after a big pause, we launched here 2 years ago and are planning a new launch soon.

Reddit, to feel what's on the edge of my topic (AI visibility).

Instagram and YouTube, trying to kill them, since they kill my time šŸ˜…

To be honest, I'm very into old-school reading, books, after a full day in front of screens.

Ā I liked your approach to the old-school way and killing some platforms =D

And do you consider PH mainly a place to launch products from time to time? Because in my case, even after launching, it continues to be my favorite place to communicate.

Ā Oh wow! As for PH - the first time I showed up was after my first startup failed, just to see what people were building. Then a pause. The second time was to launch a product with a team, as their marketing lead. Then another two-year pause. And here I am again, launching my own thing this time.

Apparently I need a proper pause between each chapter šŸ˜„

Ā Wow, it’s great that you’re going to launch your own! What problem does your new product solve? It’s super interesting to know!

analytics and content creation for ai visibility. We’re trying to approach it with data science, so results are reliable.
