šŸ“¢ What social media do you use as a maker?

by•

I’m not really a person who likes sharing my everyday life online =)

That’s one of the reasons I’m really happy to be part of the Product Hunt community.

I like being able to stay in touch with like-minded people and have everyday conversations about things we’re building, learning, and interested in.

But I understand that social media is a big part of today’s lifestyle, and it’s absolutely great that it gives people a way to connect, share, and find each other.

So, I’m curious:

Do you have social media as a maker?

What kind of things do you share there?

Is it mostly about your product, your journey, ideas, or something completely different?

And maybe you’d like to share your pages here - would be nice to discover what other makers are doing and follow along =)

LinkedIn and Telegram do the most for us, and X is much quieter than the effort suggests. We went live today, and the launch dashboard puts LinkedIn ahead of X by roughly 20 to 1 on vote conversions. Instagram I keep going for the visuals rather than the clicks.

Ā Do you mainly post for product growth, or do you post from your personal page?

Ā  Both, and they do different jobs. The company page carries the product news, and my own page is where anything actually gets a reply, so today the launch went out on both. I only started treating the personal side as worth real effort this year.

Ā Yes, the best approach. For me, growing a personal page is a little uncomfortable. I like to post, talk, and read about products. But personal pages are a must-have =/

Hey folks!

I use Threads, Instagram, and LinkedIn as a founder. I share ideas about AI, building products, and the honest side of startup life.

For our startup, we focus on Instagram, Pinterest and YouTube. That’s where we publish product content, explain our approach, and build a community around Tarot Told Me.

You can define two different approcahes from the first sight — personal account & startup's —

Happy to connect by the way!

Ā Hey Irina! I love the approach of having separate accounts for the maker and the product. We’re trying to do something similar too.

Unfortunately, I don’t have an Instagram account, so I can’t follow your pages there =(
But if you have Linkedin or Youtube, please share the links! I’d be happy to follow your journey - especially since I really loved the Tarot concept =)

Ā Thank you so much! I’m really glad you liked the Tarot concept 😊 You can follow the project and my own journey here:

And I’d love to follow what you’re building with RunEvr too!

Ā Thanks for sharing!
Found you on LI and followed the YT channel - seems like there’s lots of interesting stuff to explore =)

Ā awwww thank youuuuu

Nowadays, Product Hunt for preparing to launch my service, getting advices and look around other services,
Linkedin for building my personal career space but has to be filled more than now.
Also IG and Youtube but have to be changed. Usually for sharing my brand and company's catchups.

Ā What are you building? And when are you going to launch your product?

Ā I'm planning to launch AI meeting productivity workspace service here soon! My team is expecting to launch it in next week for now.

Ā Is it for support calls? Does it summarize them too? Interesting - I'd love to know more!

Ā Thanks for the interest. :3
Yep, it definitely summarizes meetings (along with full transcriptions and record file that you can download).

It’s actually not just for support calls, it’s designed to be a full "knowledge workspace" for teams, freelancer and anybody who wants productivity in working. You can store docs, summarize meetings, and chat with your data to find answers fast. We’re launching this core version next week, and eventually, it’ll even auto-generate documents like reports for you so can automize your whole workflow process.

Great question, Adana! Yes — but I treat each channel as a different room, not a broadcast list =)

X is where I hang out with the maker/build-in-public crowd — quick thoughts, launch updates, honest lessons. Substack is my newsletter (Rapid Growth) for longer marketing and growth pieces, Medium for the occasional deep-dive article, and I've been enjoying Bluesky and Threads lately for more relaxed conversations — the indie energy there reminds me of early Twitter.

What I share: mostly the journey, not the product. What worked, what broke, what surprised me. I shipped my first app this month (as a marketer, with AI writing the code), and the honest behind-the-scenes posts consistently got more genuine conversations than anything promotional.

Curious about your split, Adana — do you keep RunEvr content separate from your personal maker voice, or blend them?

Thank you so much for sharing your experience in such detail. I got a lot of useful information from it, thanks! :)

As for my approach, as I mentioned, it’s really outside my comfort zone to share anything publicly. I became active here on PH and on LinkedIn mainly because of the product.

Here on PH, I’ve found like-minded people, had interesting discussions, and exchanged experiences.
On LinkedIn, I’m not quite there yet, but I’m trying to go deeper and become more active.

Ā That resonates, Adana — and honestly, what you're doing is the healthiest version of it: you didn't force yourself to "be everywhere," you picked the room where conversations feel natural (PH clearly is one), and you're expanding at your own pace. That beats performative posting every time.

Definitely LinkedIn! There’s a diverse community that you can tailor your content to or reach.

Ā Do you post from your personal profile, or are you posting for a brand or product?

That is X for me

Ā How do you use X? Do you mainly follow groups, just watch & read, or actively post and engage yourself?

I’m building in the social space, so yes :) pretty much use all major ones to share. Primarily on LinkedIn for my personal brand and X in the Build in Public bubble

Ā Can you tell me a bit more about what ā€œbuilding in publicā€ means for you? I’ve read and heard a lot about it, but I still haven’t fully understood it. If you don’t mind, I’d love to see some links to your posts as examples.

im the same, i dont really want my daily life online. what changed things for me was giving up on being thinly present in four places and picking one room properly. the part i didnt expect is that almost none of it came from posting. every connection ive made here started with me answering something someone else wrote, not with anything i published myself. when i do share, its usually the mechanics of something that broke and what it cost, rather than the product. product posts get scrolled past by everyone who isnt already a customer, which is nearly everyone. does any of it carry over for you, or do the conversations stay here? mine mostly stay, and im genuinely unsure whether thats a limitation or just what a good room looks like.

Ā For me, the discussions here are really interesting and sometimes help us come up with new ideas. Most conversations stay here, but in some cases, I follow up with good connections via email or LinkedIn.

LinkedIn and X here, and the gap surprised me. Same post on both for a launch yesterday: LinkedIn brought 32 votes off views plus 16 off the shared link, X brought 4 and 1. About 8 to 1 for identical effort.

Ā Maybe the PH community on LinkedIn is larger than on X?

honestly I keep it small on purpose. Instagram and TikTok are where I build in public as a solo founder, and I treat both like an open notebook, not a highlight reel. I post what I'm building, what broke that day, the one real thing a user said. the part that surprised me: a rough behind the scenes clip almost always beats the polished one, people want the messy real version. Reddit and PH I use to actually talk to people, not broadcast. my honest question back, how many platforms can you realistically keep alive solo before it starts eating the actual building time?

Ā Thanks for sharing your experience!

To be honest, I’m active only on PH and a little bit on LinkedIn. And I guess even that eats not only time but also concentration from the product..

I think having more than one active platform can totally decrease building efficiency. Just my opinion =)
