I am delighted to be part of this launch!
Working with a highly qualified Shimmer team which strives to continuously is a familiar experience.
But in other ways, it is a very different experience this time round.
The tides are turning for ADHD care.
The latest research findings suggest that the traditional ADHD care routes are helpful, but there is a limit to what they can do. There are mixed findings regarding the effectiveness of long-term pharmacological therapy. There are also mixed findings about therapy’s capacity to improve quality of life in the longer term. In addition, there are arguments about the ethics around psychosocial interventions focused on reducing the neurodivergent – similarly to the reduction of symptoms goals in the mental health disorders or physical illness spaces.
But, as the renowned neurodiversity researcher Sonuga-Barke says “This disorder paradigm is also being challenged because it is not delivering clinically”. So, where are we with that?
Our stance on this is very considered. It is oriented in neurodiversity paradigm, coaching psychology and positive psychology standing on their own feet as oppose to being a small addition to a therapy session or a coach session narrowly focused on care plan adherence.
The neurodiversity paradigm recognises that neurodivergence presents itself through strengths and weaknesses. It talks about “atypical brain” recognised for its differences in thinking, doing and being.
Coaching in itself is an executive functioning -aimed intervention facilitating actualisation of personal capacities, talents, strengths and virtues. It is critical and ethical to help those with weaker executive functioning to make this happen in the world which by and large relies on people being meaningfully productive and finding their ways in life, at their own pace.
So, I am glad to see this launch happening and excited by the opportunities digital and AI technologies present to improving quality of life for those with ADHD.
@xenia_angevin Yes, so much I can say here. 1000% agree, and it's an exciting time for neurodivergent folks like us because there's finally more understanding and solutions crafted for us (like Shimmer!). Excited to see where the next few years takes the entire space!

Shimmer and coach Candace have helped me immensely in my journey to improve my mental health, focus, and interpersonal relationships. I highly recommend everyone take a look and connect with a Shimmer coach for your personal growth.
Very smart idea, this is part of this issue for people with ADHD, they even get bored in the session of their coaching...
It's looking extremely smart & I think the market for this type of product is ever-increasing given our reduced attention spans.
Best of luck w/ the launch Christal & team!
@cranqnow Thank you for your kind words! Attention spans (amongst other things like memory, etc.) are definitely a challenge for us ADHD-ers, so whatever we can do to use technology in our favor, I'm all for it! With the human accountability too. We spend a lot of time thinking about what should be tech vs. human!
Congrats on the launch! I've been working a coach through Shimmer since Aug. 2023, and I can't say enough good things about the experience. My coach is an incredible human, and the platform itself makes getting the support I need seamless. I'm so excited to use these features in a way that helps my coach and I get more out of our sessions and our time together. Y'all are doing amazing work - thanks so much for existing!
@kaitlinmeep Kaitlin, thank you so much for sharing your experience with Shimmer. I'm always in awe of all the amazing work our members and coaches do. We're just lucky to get to help facilitate!
