Wow! This seems like a fantastic solution for simplifying app deployments! What strategies did you use to ensure the system remains cost-effective compared to major cloud providers like AWS? Anyways, congrats on the launch! @ozgun

@ozgun @angela_ni2 Thank you! Let me chime in, while Ozgun is currently in a different time zone. The difference between the cost of the actual hardware and the cost of the cloud services from the likes of AWS has widened a lot, especially over the past 5+ years. We get the same (and in many cases even better/newer) hardware at lower cost hosting providers; and pass the savings on to users. We also look to remain a lot simpler, providing all the essential services you need to run your applications reliably, but trimming down the long tail of non-critical services -- which keeps our costs low.

Hi. Would you please be kind to explain me this product? So I am already using Hetzners VPS server that cost me $20 per month. What's the use of this tool? will it replace hetzner?

@baalam_flexidomain There are several differences with Hetzner depending on which layer of the stack you are looking at. - Ubicloud VMs are encrypted, with data encrypted both at rest and in transit. - You have Ubicloud Managed PostgreSQL (available as a separate service), which you can deploy alongside your application to simplify your database operations. - For deploying web apps to production, all the necessary capabilities are integrated into the same simplified same flow, from the VMs that talk securely to managed Postgres, to a DNS integrated elastic load balancer that distributes traffic across VMs, to baked in certificate management for HTTPS. - There are also a host of other features, such as granular access controls for team members (via ABAC, attribute-based access controls), larger VMs (ranging from 2-vCPUs to 60-vCPUs and 240 GB RAM), and more. More broadly though, Hetzner is great for providing the underlying compute --and we are big fans of Hetzner ourselves. At Ubicloud, we do provide the compute, but also the building blocks for easily running and deploying your application, including your database. We do all of this with open source, so you get the freedom to run your stack anywhere.

Congratulations on the launch! The Kamal integration sounds like a game-changer for deploying web apps on an open-source, portable, and cost-effective platform. As someone interested in alternatives to traditional cloud providers, I'm excited to see how Ubicloud develops. The founding team's experience from Azure, Amazon, and Heroku is impressive and bodes well for the project's success. Looking forward to trying it out!
