Love the concept, but wondering what the product actually is. Is there a plan for monetization? If so, can you provide details? Curious how the open source model and privacy-focused approach to user data will work with the need to generate revenue for investors.

@totallymeat Hey, thanks for your question!
Feel free to try the actual product - setup takes less than a minute, and it's available via our website. Or, alternatively, please check our product video(2 min):
In a nutshell, Anytype currently is a sandbox to organize the storage of your personal data, and our next big product step will be the launch of collaboration experience for our users. Right now it can be done if you use the same account on multiple devices (like LANs from our childhood), but this is a temporary way to collaborate, and we are aiming at a real multi-account and multi-space collaboration.
In terms of monetization, let our founders @sharipova and @pronkin_ respond to you shortly. Cheers!

@alexey_katsalukha Thank you for the response. I understand the functionality of Anytype. I was inquiring specifically about the βproductβ in the sense of what is being sold and to whom. While I wholly applaud the philosophical approach to Anytypeβs development, I am also concerned about vendor lock-in and longterm incentives based on your monetization plans, especially for a tool that is designed with privacy as a core commitment. Any insight from @sharipova and @pronkin_ would be greatly appreciated.
@simon_s_j Thank you Simon! The journey's just getting started!

So it's like a native / private / free Notion. Sounds awesome.

@jsteneros Yep, and we've just released self-hosting! Right now the setup requires some engineering skills, but later in 2023 we'll improve the flow https://tech.anytype.io/how-to/s...
I have tried Notion, but it is too bloated. I have tried Roam, but it is too simple. But then came Anytype 2.0
I dont know how long I will be with Anytype 2.0 - but got to say so far it looks promising.
Few things I absolutely love
- P2P sharing : secure and decentralized
- Local first : I don't need the internet anymore
- Open-source : freedom and transparency
- Quick as a whip
Few things I feel could improve
- Learning curve is steep. Notion-look does help, however the object type is a new feature to understand how to use
- Couldn't find the graph view in the mobile app
- A few font options would have been great
- Couldn't find "code" object to represent codes/programs
Great job. @pronkin_ and team.
@tlpeter Hey there! π
Firstly, thanks for giving Anytype a try! It's exciting to hear that you've highlighted our core values. Everything begins with our commitment to data ownership and transparency. This vision led us to adopt a local-first design, which in turn provides speed and reliability.
- We acknowledge the learning curve; we're working on introducing more built-in use-cases and improving the flow of object types.
- Implementing a graph view on mobile is challenging due to the smaller screen size, but it's an interesting task for our talented design team.
- We have some plans regarding text accessibility; feel free to upvote on the community forum: https://community.anytype.io/t/f...
- Regarding the code block: you can access it by typing `/code` β the block is called "Code snippet"
A big shoutout to you for taking the time to share such detailed insights π
Congratulations to the Anytype team on the successful launch of version 2.0! ππ₯³ It's amazing to see the improvements you've made to create a powerful knowledge management tool that values user privacy, local storage, and P2P sync.
For common people to use this excellent tool I recommend putting in some quick start templates, eg lets say an author with minimal IT knowledge who would simply want to organize writing workspaces. Or a small business flowershop owner who would like to organize aspects of business in a workspace by hitting up a "get start template for business people".
@sunthara_segar Thank you Sunthara! This is a really nice idea, I love how specific it is. Last month we implemented our first iteration of 'contextual use cases' and look forward to expanding on these with the help of our community!
@sunthara_segar I think it's a great suggestion, we plan to add a gallery of templates and also start a contributor program to source them from the community. We plan to announce it on our forum
