How much do you invest in healthtech? Share your health tech stack.

They say the best investment is in your health. (I agree, although I have to admit I don’t really stick to that myself.)

Right now, health is mostly being supported at the level of:

– physical fitness (workout apps, weight-loss tools, smart devices for heart-rate tracking, step counters)
– mental health (e.g., digital detox apps, a personal therapist in your phone)
– longevity (more of a long-term process, experimenting across different areas)

There’s also a dedicated category on Product Hunt.

I’m curious how many makers, given the rather sedentary lifestyle, actually invest in healthtech, and what kind of products they usually choose?

Share your health tech stack.

For example, as for me, I only use the basic Apple Health app.

I tried going deep with trackers and apps for a while, but somehow always end up back on just Apple Health.

@leah_josephine Back to our roots! :D

I used to be full into my health tech stack: Whoop monthly subscription, Strava, I even used to pay for an app to design my gym routines...

But I noticed the tech had a big impact on how I planned my days: If it said I didn't rest enough, I might skip a run or wouldn't push hard enough at the gym. And I had to be all the time on my phone tracking each exercise.

Now I use no tech at the gym. And exercise based on the energy I have, not what an app said.
I still use the free strava app to record my runs. Def felling liberated.

@norteapp That reminds me of my friend who felt okay, but the app said to him: You have low energy and he started hypochondriac to say that he was feeling bad. :D Until the app didn't say, he was ok :D

Jose Sanchez

@busmark_w_nika That's why not using it anymore was the best move for me!

@norteapp I felt this many times after installing some app that is claiming that it's going to change my life (maybe not literally, but you get the idea), and then I was adapting to the app, getting a huge pain in the ass, and finally uninstalling it and feeling happy again :D

I used to track my macros for a while, but now I’m back to just basic Apple Health too 😄. Thanks for sharing the category link!

Nika

@amraniyasser hahaha, at some point, it can be really overwhelming, that's for sure :D

Most of us treat our bodies like legacy servers we hope won’t crash mid-sprint! Sticking to Apple Health is a total vibe no need to over-engineer the stack when a quick walk is the best way to debug a block. Let's keep the hardware running while we ship.

Do you actually listen to those "time to stand up" pings, or is your focus mode way too strong?

Nika

@shyunbill I do not listen to my own advice, why should I listen to someone else? :D

Stan Kolotinskiy

I am only using the Apple Health app with an Apple Watch on my hand and... being disappointed every night before going to sleep because in most cases the only closed ring is the Stand one - I'm good at that :D

Nika

@sk_uxpin what goals have you set for yourself and your health? :D

Stan Kolotinskiy

@busmark_w_nika hahahah, primarily to survive until retirement so that I can play all the games I purchased over the last 15 years :D

Nika

@sk_uxpin I will not have a retirement, no way that the government will take care for me :D

Stan Kolotinskiy

@busmark_w_nika to be honest, I'm not expecting that either - I only meant the age of retirement, hahaha

Oh, that’s a really interesting topic!

Honestly, a smartwatch that clearly tracks your metrics is great. But something I personally use is a shoulder massager (massage gun). It’s actually very useful, especially if you overdo sitting at a laptop/computer.

As for chairs, the most comfortable and ergonomic classic is Herman Miller. I think the model is Herman Miller Embody Chair.

For sleep, I use earplugs (they help a lot).

I highly recommend Whoop 5.0. Whoop is focused on strain. It tells you exactly how much “stress” your body has taken on.

Otherwise, I try to do lab tests twice a year. And I constantly discuss them with AI. I find the advice from Google Gemini the most practical and the one I like best.

I also keep discovering cool gadgets on Kickstarter. There are a lot related to health.

Nika

@byalexai Wow, I didn't know that you are so invested in healthtech. But that thing with Kickstarted is true. There are many good ideas. The founder of minimalist phone also bought a special lamp from here. I should browse that website more often.

I use glucose monitor. It’s one of the best health tech products for me. It shows me my blood glucose level around the clock so that I can get feedback on the impact of type of food I consume. I started to use it because I heard how important the blood glucose level is for general health.

Nika

@michael_zhang20 is it because of diabetes or is it a prevention?

The only thing I use is a spreadsheet to track weightlifting. When it comes to health and fitness no amount of tech will substitute discipline to eat right and work out. It’s one area of my life I keep pretty tech free since cooking and exercise are a meditative break from the rest of the noise.

Nika

@edward_g yeah, sometimes it can be limiting, but it also depends on how committed and motivated the person is :)
