Visible - It's phone service. In an app.

Visible is a phone service in an app. $40/mo all-in for unlimited data, messages and minutes all on Verizon's 4G LTE network.

I switched service in July 2019. The idea of saving money every month on my fixed income was a plus. (I bit) I could trade in my phone for once of theirs....(I bit) Service was supposed to begin on July 12. It didn't. Hours and hours speaking to their customer service reps who could only give scripted answers. Finally on August 26 I was able to use the service. They gave me an $80 credit which showed up in their records as amount owed. Needless to say $80 came out of my account causing a minus in my checking account. I never bounce checks. I was very patient and felt that because they are a new company glitches happen. Well that is over now because they messed with my money. DO NOT SWITCH to VISIBLE. It will now cost me money I cannot afford to switch back to. Be aware of this company.

Wow, I've never seen a company work so hard to avoid signing up a new customer. I reviewed this company's service, their phone, and decided to switch over from my other carrier for a few reasons. They had a promotion of $150 off a new phone on one day and the following day when I went to place the order it changed to $100. I reached out to customer service on 3 occasions to get the $50 honored (either in the prepaid card promo, or in the form of a credit) thinking gosh it's only $50, I'm sure this company will be willing to accommodate a new customer. Boy was I wrong! They have dug their heels in and refused to help at all. If their treat prospective customers this way, I can't imagine how badly they treat their current customers. I used to have Verizon for over 10 years and left for Google Fi where I have been for several years and now I know why. What a disappointment! I'll stick with my current provider as they at least pretend to care about their customers. Stay away from Visible.

No tethering permitted. Also, capped video resolution (which is silly since they aren't saving much data that way anyways). Probably great for people that don't rely on a cellular connection for laptop-based work in emergencies.
Tyler Frederick
@coreyward Have you tested video streaming on the service? I'm interested to see if they actually do cap the resolution or if they are just stating 5 Mbps is good enough to continuously stream 480p without buffering.

@coreyward Yeah definitely need the tethering. Useless to me without it.

If it’s anything like Verizon’s Unlimited plan, you’re going to experience unprioritized access which can be REALLY slow in peak hours/areas.

Here in Italy with Wind I pay 7euros montly for 15GB cap LTE (4G) and unlimited call. And I can use my calls/GB all over EU zone without fees

Would I have to cancel my preexisting Verizon account or can I just switch over as if it's a different plan?
Eitan Rosenberg
And on that same note, I'm "renting" my phone from Verizon. Do I still qualify?
Heather Horsey
@eitan_rosenberg Visible is operated independently from Verizon, so you'll need to go to Visible.com to switch over. And your device needs to be unlocked, which means paying off anything you may still owe.

I hope Broadband companies don't hop on this train. My area just made 100 Mbps the standard. If we start making consumers believe that 5 Mbps and 480p quality video is acceptable in 2018 then we are going to have a problem on our hands. Can't help but think this is a Google Project Fi clone by Verizon. When Google Fi is $20 a month for unlimited talk and text with $10/gb high speed data and the benefit of mobile hotspot. However not compatible with iPhone while Visible is only available on iPhone right now. Oh and don't forget Project Fi works internationally with no additional cost for using data while abroad. 5 Mbps is the minimum speed Verizon provides while calling it 4G LTE "Verizon 4G LTE...able to handle download speeds between 5 and 12 Mbps (Megabits per second) and upload speeds between 2 and 5 Mbps, with peak download speeds approaching 50 Mbps." - Verizon, 2013 On a different note this does make sense for people that are finally making their way off of their parent's family plan. Paying $40/month is more affordable than most offerings while getting the coverage of Verizon LTE. Heck maybe the 5 Mbps speed will help curb Smartphone addiction in young adults because it now takes forever to load compared to high speed LTE they are used to. It'll be interesting to see how the offering develops and changes over time. I'm interested to see how Visible will handle international talk, text and data when the time comes that they make it an option.

@shakesmcquakes "Heck maybe the 5 Mbps speed will help curb Smartphone addiction in young adults because it now takes forever to load compared to high speed LTE they are used to" So buy that expensive iPhone X for ~$1k and then pay $40 a month for a service that will cripple said iPhone X and reduce how much you use it?
Tyler Frederick
@hayden_evans nothing paints a better portrait of an American consumer like that question
Hayden Evans
@shakesmcquakes we are talking about an American company providing a service to Americans, on devices Americans use (some from American companies themselves) are we not? This service doesn’t really seem to fit as well in America as it might in other parts of the world.

Maybe too soon to tell, but no cons that I think of. I'm just a human who needs a phone that makes calls and unlimited data for work connectivity, hotspot, slack chat, email, ya know.. work stuff.

Pros:

Insanely simple process. Porting was instant. Sim card arrived in 1 day.

Cons:

None

Terrible call quality when recurving calls, Luke seriously the worst depute having 54 bars

I have been trying to get service for seven weeks and it has been nothing but trouble. I have waited on char four hours or more several times. The only answer I get is “We will refer this to a specialist and it will be fixed in 24-48 hours.
